Not necessarily. Different licencing laws could apply...

IIRC Different rules apply to football and rugby matches held in the same stadium.

I was forever having to tell people to sit down back when I lived in Yorkshire and attended most matches. If you have a little one with you (child or just short adult) they can't see the match at all when others stand up. This isn't the same as the old terraces where you can choose where to stand. You're stuck in one place so idiots standing just ruin the experience for others.

    Just sit down.

As an aside I'm all for them opening terraces again for those who want to stand but it isn't happening any time soon.

Can't see what issue people have with this. You have purchased a seat. Seats are for sitting in. Sit down. Nothing to do with atmosphere, the club being nasty, somebody wanting to ruin pleasurable experience. You bought a seat to sit in so sit in it. And, if you get excited and stand up occasionally, remember where you are, remember other people need to see the game. Remember some may not be able to stand or are shorter than you. Sit down again. If you want to stand up go somewhere else until, perhaps, standing areas are designated at Oakwell. You're not an idiot, you know you bought a seat to sit in. You know its the rules to sit down. So, sit down.

It may be like the old COVID rules, where it was safe to remove your mask to eat and drink, but only when sat down. You are allowed to sing, but only when sitting. ;)

If I realized promotion to the Championship, or relegation to League Two, was predicated on the number of fans standing, I would be a rebel too.

It’s not impossible to sing sat down but you can’t get any prolonged gusto like that, they don’t sit down when choirs sing do they ? Cue a sarky disabled band **** any comment from one of the usual suspects.
Ladies and gentlemen can you please be upstanding for the National Anthem? Oops scratch that sit darn

Can you remember when they made Barnsley make Oakwell all seater years ago but many grounds still have standing.

It’s impossible for some people to see when people are stood up. You’re not going to Oakwell to join a choir, you’re going to watch a game of football. It’s not impossible to sing at drunk football fan quality when sat down, no one’s judging your vocals. And, even if they were, the rules say sit down.

The whole issue of no standing in all seater stadia emanated from the Taylor Report following the Hillsborough disaster. The same rules apply on the continent, however, they overcome the issue by allowing standing where ‘Rail seats’ are installed. For domestic matches games the seat backs extend to form a barrier thus allowing standing. So in the section with rail seats everybody has to stand. For internationals and European matches standing is not allowed. That said they, who like us, have muppets who insist on standing. The same excuse is trotted out that “so and so stand so we can”. In reality they just want to snub the club and make life difficult for the stewards. It’s that many fans want to rail against what they see as authority. We have numpties in the upper East stand who stand up, albeit not the whole game. Those behind can’t see so have to stand up. Why do they feel the need to spoil it for others. Is it because they can.?

The manager isn’t likely to fall forward onto the bloke in front who could fall forward to the young kid in front of him.
