It’s been 3 years since we finished 5th in the championship. We are repeatedly and consistently throwing away teams that have the capability of building to match that for next to nowt in the current transfer market. This is a choice and where we are is definitely no measure of where we should be. If you’ve bought into the ***** the ownership is selling you about us not deserving better then that’s your business but you’re simply wrong. Even selling the players we’ve had for what they’re worth would be a start. Luton are a very comparable as a team and are enjoying the premier league with half our recent players because they’ve shown ambition. The only certain way things will get worse is if the majority of fans buy into the belief we should be happy with mid table league 1. We are capable of better and have had 5 or 6 individual teams in the last decade that could have achieved Better if we didn’t rip it apart every summer.
I thought they both played well especially Kane, gaps between them and everyone else was far too big, I think we'd struggle without Kane. Opinions eh
Yep I agree. This is my last season being a season ticket holder now. Can’t be arsed with rebuild fc every season anymore.
I may not be the most optimistic on the finances but I do not think we are close to administration. The sales this summer coupled with the further potential sales will, along with the nett amount put in by the owners, recapitalise the balance sheet. Furthermore the sales and recruitment policy will reset the pay roll for a league one club with league one income. We may have been poor tonight but the club isn’t going in to admin anytime soon.
No. Blew all momentum putting kids out v Tranmere in the cup. They look rusty as f cuk and were crap for 20 mins v Port Vale. I hope we win Saturday now. I really do.
The thing is... Luton had all decent players that were experienced and old heads. Nowrood aside, who was very successful for us, we have no chance of following there model. No value to sell is there....
Me too mate. I know I can be a negative sod but I'll start properly assessing Collins at the 10 league game marker. His overall remit for the season has to be the play offs and failure to achieve that should see him moved on.
I hope he lasts that long. Brought in as Khaled's fall guy. Feel for him. Felt for Schopp. He didn't have a clue either though. Jolly good chap and spiffing with it thoroughly nice bloke.
100%, hopefully he needs a couple of specific players to make his formation click or a tweak to the tactics.
That's pretty much my take on it. For what it's worth, I think our recruitment this summer will turn out to be quite decent. We'll finish top 6, which considering the players we've got at this level is the minimum acceptable. However, we may well lose in the playoffs, and that's where our troubles will start. Again. Cadden, Connell, Lopata, Phillips, Kitching, Williams, Styles as an absolute minimum will go on to have decent careers in the Championship at the very least. There's a reasonable chance that won't be with us, thanks to our inability, and apparent unwillingness, to stop any decent side from being dismantled.
What we really need is a settled side, if we're going to sell then let's sell, if not then make it clear. Let's be clear, if not to us fans then at least to the squad & push onwards and upwards, uuuu blummin redz.
Luton is a S**thole, they don't have mega rich owners and despite being hung out to dry by mismanagement and the EFL they have put a solid identity together which has seen them build platforms and grow year on year with a lower matchday turnover than us. Yet the team that's spent more seasons at the 2nd level, consistently wants to recruit players with resale value and build nothing - and there lies the problem. One track recruitment policy to fit into a one track style of play, its no coincidence we haven't come from behind to win a game in a lifetime, we can't change the course of a game because we can't change the way we play, it's plan A or plan A on and off the pitch.
You, and most others on here, would have said exactly the same last season until about ten games in. I think that once the defence gets settled and Luca is back, we'll be absolutely fine.
