Didn’t watch the game as was working but have now seen the goals. Will likely watch the final on Sunday morning.
It was a great game of football today. I expected an England defeat, but after conceding and nearly conceding again, twice, they were phenomenal in recovering & winning by a country mile. Superb teams, atmosphere & quality. Is it a men's match, no. It was better than most I've seen in a long time. Anyone who wants to say that is 'lower level" has a problem with their eye sight, or just can't accept women can play a brilliant football match. Well done to England, but Australia put on a great game too IMO.
I thought if we got this far, we'd have gone out to France (like the men's team did), and I haven't been that impressed with them that much so far. But that today was classic game management, silence the crowd and try to frustrate them as much as possible. And there was some good footy in there as well, they were very impressive.
No, I think it's a valid point, and I have actually read a a very interesting article discussing it. The article concluded that we shouldn't, based on the fact that when the dimensions of the goal were decided upon, the height of an average British man was only about 5ft 7", so today's ladies are probably size-wise comparable to the blokes who were playing the game 160 years ago.
And as the pool of players to choose from is likely to increase over the next few years, bigger goalies are likely to emerge.
You can give your head a wobble too, what you talking about, someone said they wanted players from England team in our team, the folk on this forum are so soon to the jump on any chance to gain the moral high ground,it’s a wonder you don’t form a climbing club and all set off to conquer mount high ground ,so you can all look down on us people with opinions not the same as yours
It'll be interesting to see how that develops. I always thought that Mary Earps was around 6ft, but apparently she's only 5ft 9. Very tall for a woman, but still in midget territory for a keeper. I'm 5ft 10, and it's still pretty rare (outside of when I was living in Norway) that I see a woman of my height or taller. Women over 6ft are rarer still, yet that's still not huge for a keeper. Women just don't grow that tall very often. Then the said woman has to be into football, and possess world-class goalkeeping skills. I still don't think there will be that many coming through (although of course each country only needs to find two or three such ladies at any one time!)
So what you chatting then, why not put “you misunderstood what was said “,why you trying to put me down for saying women won’t play in mens football, just a simple statement I made
Lady Kaht is 5 feet 4 inches Mr BigLil, but I tell you in all seriousness it's the small ones you need to watch out for!
Just to round off our family, Mr O, I'm 6ft 3, our son Christopher is 6ft 8 and our daughter (due to her illnesses) is 5ft 3 and a half inches. She adamant that no one should forget that extra half an inch!
Errrrr obviously! Where have I said they could? Perhaps re-read my post, I said players with pace and trickery, and strength and finishing ability - not those specific players!
Well done ladies, now bring it home! I don't understand why certain people always have to comment, especially about physical ability. Believe it or not, if you go back to school, you may learn a thing or two about biology and different body types.
Across this competition, I’ve been very impressed with the various goalies. There have been many great saves and some awesome performances. Segueing to something rather unconnected, why does Awesome have an E, but Awful doesn’t?
