I said the exact same thing on Tuesday. Colby Bishop at Pompey with 24 goals last season. Haven’t seen anyone coming in for him as of yet.
But how long will a lot of supporters be happy to bounce along the bottom? It's getting beyond a joke now.
They both want to build, I've no problem in selling a player for a decent fee and reinvesting, if we got the reported 3.5m for mads why weren't looking at some quality signings from this level. We come out and say every penny is reinvested into the club, maybe so, but we're taking an asset from the playing side and reinvesting it back into the running costs of the club in the process weakening the playing side
If Collins fancies Clarke-Harris and we don't make a realistic bid for him he'll know good and proper which side his bread is buttered on.
What you’re possibly forgetting is that we have both Cundy and McCarthy to come back. Whatever your opinion on them is our new HC needs to assess them for himself
When they say every penny is reinvested what they mean is it services debt, cos where on earth has £3.5m been used either in players or the ground.
This is true, but this is cundy who was OK but nothing spectacular and put out of the back line by a young loan signing, we've seen more of him playing than Collins to make judgement, so hardly an inspiring return of a player.
The club, at the last accounts (May 2022), owed £2.8m in respect of EFL covid loans and £3m to the Cryne family in respect of the purchase of the club. The EFL loan is interest free and will be repaid by 2026/27, suggesting around £600k pa repayment. The repayment of the £3m to the Crynes is due to start this month and is described as ‘a long term repayment plan’ in the accounts. The big issue with the finances is that league one revenue does not support a wage bill of anything over £5m. The payroll in 2022, admittedly a championship season, was £13.1m. Until either the revenue increases substantially, a return to the championship, or the wage bill is slashed, the club will lose money every year and will need to be subsidised either by player trading profits or owner contributions. I’m hoping that the latest cash put in to the club will enable the squad to be significantly strengthened as this seems to be a pressing need based on the last three performances.
Good post. Highlights the big issues as a club we face. Even relegation clauses only make so much of a difference.
Yea good post...it would be very interesting also to see how other clubs fair in this division....just as a comparison.
