There’s minimal difference in the performance from Then to Now but what has changed is the illusion of ambition. Days of yore also had us sell our best players but usually one player after 2 or 3 seasons of game time, not a level of churn that sees 5 players and a manager leave the first team after barely more than 12 months. Missed promotion to the Championship by seconds? Best dismantle the team at intervals throughout the transfer window and ensure we don’t have a settled squad until November. Cup run revenue count towards FFP funds? Best bail out early versus Tranmere then rather than give it a go and cover more of the financial black hole. Tales of our demise have been greatly exaggerated on here but it’s ******* boring starting every season with two hands tied behind our backs. That’s before we even mention the new Championship rights deal that means we really need to get promoted before the disparity widens or the inexorable move towards a Super League. We can’t be that many seasons away from a league with limited, if any, promotion and relegation. Onwards!
Even the dumbest fan knows its an expensive job running/owning a football club. So if they don't want to spend their money why do they take them on. Like everything in life they have a choice. Us paupers have a choice to go on holiday if we can afford it we go if we can't afford it we don't
Well often they do spend their money, often too much and saddle the club with debt. See Bolton, Reading etc.
It wasn't that long ago that our signings were rarely sold on for anything significant. Coming out of the Premiership we bought some absolutely rubbish players. Now you can write a very long list of the quality we've bought via the much maligned 'spreadsheet'. Especially defenders, I mean we've signed some absolute quality. We can't keep them for that long because we're finding players who are in many ways too good. The club is sticking players on longer deals but ultimately were going to have to sell, and for less at the moment as we're in a division below where we'd like to be.
He’s obviously doing the job the owners want him to do that’s why he’s still in a job ,the Crynes and the other owners won’t think twice about chucking him under the bus if it suits them . The player recruitment has more or less followed the same plan / pattern for some years .
But not Barnsley. We heard enough on Friday night they had put 3 and a half million into club over last 12 month but lets not forget that is between them and they are all millionaires so that is like us spending a few hundred on a decent holiday. They always say how much they have put in but sales are always undisclosed. I have heard it all for 70 years. I am used to it and unless we get a ryan Reynolds or a rich Arab it will always be the same
And we've spent most of those years mid table in the 2nd tier of English football, a place that now seems a very very long way away.
in fairness you are the one posting the click bait thread. He’s in charge. Like most business he carries the responsibility on that basis.
That last comment is a bit churlish mate. We all enjoy watching Barnsley but there's nothing wrong in getting piss.ed off/disillusioned/ fed up/ctitical if the perception is that the club is going backwards rather than forwards.
So you've basically enjoyed all the times we've been losing, but you hated it when we were winning: https://www.barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/valerien-ismael.319016/page-2#post-3057207 Honestly, i'm sure you do it just to be contrarian.
Ok, fetching Michael Duff to the fold when he was wanted by teams higher than us……..working to rid messers Lee and Conway from the club, helping to raise funds to keep the club afloat…….getting players like Connell and Styles to sign contract extentions to essentially secure a financial gain to the club. The West Stand, East Stand and shirt issue for me is totally outbid his hands……… However he’s also been ‘responsible’ as you and others like to pin on him some pope decisions too……..his announcement to say he had some good news has totally backfired on him which a suspect due to legal reasons is being kept under wraps…….top and bottom, a lot of you have hung drawn and quartered him months ago so even if I try to offer some positives cos it doesn’t fit your agenda you’ll not offer any credit so essentially I’m wasting my Fuking breath really……..there are undoubtedly issues which need fixing, I’ll revise my thoughts in a months time when I see where we are then
Well when something goes wrong it’s pinned on him so why can’t the attempted removal of them 2 tossers be attributed to him? Works both ways remember
Because some things are within the remit of the guy running the club whilst others are within the remit of those owning it.
Wasn't it between us and Blackpool? Not sure that's a huge achievement. What would they have to offer better than us? More donkeys.....maybe.
