Supreme boxer, but I think Tyson would just be way too much for him. Too big, too skilful, too powerful. Sadly I just don’t think the fight will ever happen. Too much money elsewhere for him now.
I think it was low but I can see why others don’t. Either way let’s not pretend Usyk would’ve stayed down if the ref started counting. He was talking to the ref & playing up for the time out. Fighters who are ‘finished’ with a body shot can’t speak for minutes. He just used his brain & took the time out.
I’m not saying he wouldn’t have made the count, but anyone who’s been hit right in the solar plexus cannot fight at their best for a couple of minutes and it took the best chance Dubois had of winning away.
It depends on your view. I thought it was a low shot. Loads of American fighters & boxing journalists I follow say it was low but loads of British fighters are saying it was a fair shot. I think it’s one of them where home advantage comes into play. If it happened to Joshua or Fury at Wembley against a foreign fighter they would also more than likely get the benefit of the doubt.
If there was VAR I think it would have been overturned. It was definitely about home advantage and I’m looking at it purely retrospectively. I didn’t think Dubois would be anywhere near a win, but I do think he was hard done to.
But even VAR’s dodgy. Look at Wolves not getting that pen at Man Utd on the opening weekend or of course us against Wednesday. I think in that scenario it wouldn’t be overturned as it’s not ‘a clear and obvious error’. It’s a debateable one
I’d be very surprised if Fury doesn’t take this fight next. As much as I like Usyk, I don’t see him giving Fury any trouble and I’m pretty sure Fury will think the same. This would be an ideal final fight for Fury. It will fill a stadium, make a fortune and he can walk away a healthy, undefeated, unanimous World Heavyweight Champion. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Usyk’s final fight too. A winner takes all finale.
Some of the glove made contact below the belt. Its a tight call for sure. I still think Usyk would have got up in plenty of time if he had needed to.
The referee had immediately called a time out as the thought it was a low blow. Usyk has intelligence beyond many boxers. Of course he's going to take the opportunity to have a rest. I find it hard to believe he didn't get up because it was a great body shot. It was a good shot don't get me wrong. But if the count had started, usyk would have been up. Dubois far from robbed.
I don't think fury is bothered about a legacy or fighting the best. He just doesn't want to lose, if dubuois had won't last night I think fury would have been really up for that fight.
Looks like the Dubois camp have appealed for it to be recorded as a No Contest. Might at least see him offered a rematch
I agree with Frampton looked a fair shot. Maybe groin guards are going to be needed to go higher if that was low. I think usyk definitely milked it he was hurt and bought some time.
He definitely did, and to be fair that's the clever thing to do. You're in a fight you take any advantage that comes your way.
Won't be recorded as no contest. The referee made a call and that's it. Much worse things have stood in boxing!
He was hurt from that so instead of taking 2 minutes to recover he would have had less than 10 seconds it would have been advantage dubois.
Indeed but he may well have been able to beat the count see out the round and recover. He may not have done, that we will never know.
He might well have been hurt, by the rules he could have taken up to five minutes to recover. Why not take it if you're given the chance? Dubois had a further four rounds to continue the aim of going to the body, but instead got stopped. Like I said before, far from robbed in my opinion.
But it wasn't low imo it was to the gut maybe groin gaurds need to be made bigger if that's low. Dubois lost probably every round apart from that for me but that was a body shot and should have been counted for 10... usyk really milked it, would he have made the bell and recovered given a 10 count I don't know. I didn't think he would get many decisions go his way in Poland anyway.
