So, currently in our 4th queue at Palma airport, absolute bedlam, folk laid on the floor, people crying……the full works!! Should’ve flown last night at 2100 but the flight was cancelled, shipped off to a hotel an hour away and told we was on the 1120 today, had no information from jet2 this morning and no transport sent for us so we decided to get a taxi, €75 later we arrive at this mad house. We’ve been told we’re on Christ knows how many different flights so far too………I can take waiting as the weather is out of there control but a little interaction from the airline would’ve been welcomed. Hey ho….. Not sure our lass will be happy when I spend the food vouchers In the boozer
Same happened to us with Jet2 in Tenerife at the start of the month. Split our plane across two planes, left all the kids on the early flight so we was on with that but the flight after got delayed 4 hours. Ten mi it’s before boarding our flight (the early flight) got cancelled and we got shipped off to a hotel at 4:30am in the morning, and then we all got woke up at 6am saying our plane was ready. Arrived at 7:20am, only to get in the airport to see our flight had again been delayed, this time by 5 hours. They refunded us 600ppp apart from our young en, because he travelled on a free child place. Got back to mcr airport worried about the parking as it was 20 quid an hour late charge fee and we was over 25 hours late. Thankfully the girl in reception couldn’t log onto the system and we got out without having to pay.
You're lucky that you got accommodation and food vouchers. Twenty odd years ago we were flying back from Gran Canaria on a 5 pm Sunday afternoon flight. I thought something was funny as the bus provided by the tour company dropped us off at the airport. I saw all the tour reps leg it as fast as they could out of the airport. Sure enough "No Information" was displayed on the Departure board. It stayed like that for about 10 hours, when it said the flight back was now setting off at 6 am. Bear in mind that the airport effectively shut down overnight. So no food or drink for 12 hours. Absolute disgrace it was. This was before mobile phones and internet, so couldn't contact anyone anyway. So just had to sit and suffer for over 12 hours in an empty airport.
Going to get worse for you mate - the whole of the UK air traffic control has gone down. Armageddon if BBC News coverage is owt to go by. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
I was caught up in the fires in Rhodes.First 2 nights on a school floor,3rd day got to resort,5 hours later evacuated.Eventually got put in a 4*all inclusive for our remaining 9 nights. Didn't get the holiday we had planned (11 nights s/c in Pefkos) but we enjoyed our piece of luxury in Kalathea. Got home to a full refund of our original holiday plus £500 worth of vouchers for our troubles. Already booked for Menorca in October.
Similar happened with us in Madeira last year when high winds grounded all flights as we were about to head home. Jet2 couldn’t have been better. Took us back to Funchal and put us up for an extra night in a 5 star hotel with dinner and a free drink included. Lengthy queues at airport the next morning but eventually flew home safely. Won’t use anyone else but Jet2 after that.
