I'd agree to an extent T. But the gloating so and so's can't wait to trash a player if he's having a bad spell. With one or two reluctant to say they got it wrong Trashing a player b4 he's even put a shirt on in some cases. I'm in the wait and see dept. But what I will never do is slag a player off whilst at the club and rarely after they've left. Nothing wrong in saying a player had a bad game. They will know that themselves. But it's then for them to bounce back. Booing of a player or the team can have a detrimental effect. Never done that either. I do agree an older head in the Norwood mould can lift younger players if a game Is going tits up say. Russell gets a lot of negative press and to some degree I understand that, so long as it's constructive. But he reads a game as good as most I've ever seen and plays it simple. At wigan it stood out a mile. Long may it continue. I can't believe the abuse Cole gets from the stands. Not so much on here. I can only hope he can't hear it. (Not of a racial nature but idle b'std is a norm for some.) I saw some really exciting prospects yesterday in the U21S. And as a team they would give a good show against Grimsby. Not sure what the criteria is for 1st team squad inclusions though. Lets hope they never have to put up with the 5h1T of no experience.
I don't think anyone would disagree that a couple of experienced players would certainly help. The club may still choose to do that this summer, but it's still got to be within our wage structure, so you're looking at players who have maybe been around this level for a few years who have lost their way a bit (a bit like Norwood last season). I think the main gripe some have, is that most of our signings are written off before they've even signed, simply because people look at where they're signing from, and immediately throw accusations around about us not wanting to get promoted or similar. I read 3 different people yesterday say we were setting for long term league 1 football, simply because we're linked with a lad from Rotherham.
Under Mark Robins we were safe by March twice The Flitcroft one is a funny comparison because he was incredible first season, 'worst than Flitcroft' is not something I think is shameful anyway
I liked the original plan. Talent spotting in the league lower than us and carefully selecting players with a lot of games played (experience not necessarily age). We have abandoned this and now just have a scatter gun approach of signing players seemingly without pattern or a plan on the basis that one might gone good eventually. As for social media. Definitely toxic. We live in an increasingly polarised world. Not sure it’s always negative though McAtee seems quite a popular signing.
The problem now is that we're league 1 and other clubs are following the same model as us so the types of player like Hourihaine and Scowen ( Both players of the year at their respective clubs) are being sought and signed by bigger clubs than us.
Things have changed in the 11yrs since Robin's left. The premier league has become more powerful,.they have even landed on a way to get top dollar for their old men . More very rich individuals are willing to spaff their millions away on the dream of the promised land and this affects us further down the food chain unfortunately. When you're got forwards at Exeter and Wimbledon with one good season going for 1m+ its mad. We have had a market cut off through Brexit so the national league is the pool we have to look at. They are I think all professional teams at that level but I'm sure we will have to kiss a few frogs to find our princes.
Our club should be able to poach good & proven league 1 players from Cambridge, Cheltenham, Burton etc We could flex our muscles more as a pretty attractive destination for this division
We do though to an extent. Managers too. Less so the last 12 months due to the adjustment from dropping out of the Championship. I'd expect us to do so again. I'd have to say though that for a long, long time we generally shop in the division below us rather than the one we're in.
But these players are on the radar of other clubs some of them championship clubs . I have come to accept what we are now lower championship at best the days of a established championship club are thing of the past for reason I mentioned earlier parachute payments, rich owners, poor boardroom management. I would rather it be like this than someone spend money we don't have and risk the club because if football carries on down this road I believe more than one established will go to the wall.
What do expect the fans reaction to be when they constantly see established first team players sold and replaced with players from L2 or below or kids from premier league teams who however good they may be in the future aren't up to speed immediately and therefore cause an instant drop off in performance and results. Take the latest rumours and speculation we've gone from looking at a 15 to 20 goals a season first team player to bench warmer at best from Rotherham whose scored about 3 goals in his entire career. While I agree it's not the new signings fault and the fans frustration should be directed at those implementing the master plan that sees us have to reset after every bit of success due to the plan you can surely understand why they are frustrated.
The answers in your own response. "Rumour and speculation ." Just take no notice of it until we've actually signed someone.
Are they any better than what we have, Cole has more goals than both of them I think and on his showing on Saturday Mcatee looks useful. Watters and Dallas have yet to impress but we only a few games into a long season
Maybe a signing has not been targeted as an out-and-out striker/goal poacher who we expect 20+ per season from, but to fill a niche role in the team that is missing with the current players. McAtee could be the 15 goal striker, while Kayode is wanted for something different...
I think we should have gone for May last summer. It has to be said a lot of people on here thought he was a one season wonder at the time. Maybe we could have knicked him this summer if Mickey Longhaul had still been here.
It’s not every signing being slagged off it’s just we seem to be recruiting poorly. Look at the numbers we have in the squad yet we have ended up with a boatload of players that aren’t deemed good enough or ready yet and yet still feel we need to bring in more players.
