    I worked in the Civil Service (DWP) for 18 years until I took early retirement just over 2 years ago. Crap pension but I was a miner for 16 years and also have the MWP. Not great but I can manage

    The Soviet designs are very distinctive, first and foremost because of the lack of religious imagery. The kings don't have crosses on the top, and the bishops don't have mitres.

    As 90% of the world's top players were Soviet for the majority of the 20th century, you can find photos of top grandmasters playing with Soviet sets in top level tournaments, making them highly collectible by chess nerds! The popularity of The Queen's Gambit on Netflix stimulated interest yet further in Soviet chess sets, as they feature prominently in the final tournament. Curiously for a show that was so meticulously researched, the set used in Beth Harmon's game in the last episode was never used in top level tournaments, it was mass-produced, often in gulags, and sold to everyday Soviet citizens.

    Currently work as a Food Studies tutor at an SEN school. The job is so much more than that though and is definitely more mentally draining than physically. Been there almost 3.5 years now and it’s nice knowing that I may be contributing in some small way towards making our students lives better. All about banking that compassion.
