Hopefully he can eclipse jasper's performances in a barnsley shirt.

Exactly, in my opinion Kitchings going to Coventry, one in one art, great work Barnsley FC, we want at least 5 million, no less.

Why can we not get a permanent experienced player in?
Is it loan to perm or just season loan? Can't see that anywhere, just wanted to clarify.
I suspect we RUFC and the board have had our pants down.

Going cap in hand to borrow players from Rotherham seems a new low even for us.

Screams panic signing to me, hopefully isn’t to replace Kitching and hopefully won’t push the likes of Shepherd down the pecking order.

I'm fully expecting Jack Shepherd to be our left side centre back as the season progresses. Bringing in this guy on loan provides competition and cover if Shepherd has a dodgy spell or gets injured without any commitment. We've got a good set of promising centre halves and this seems a sensible approach to me and enables us to strengthen other positions if big Liam leaves.

Also - random fact - McCart was one of Jason Kerr's centre back partners when we were linked with him at St Johnstone.

I wonder if Rotherham feel sorry for us by letting us have 2 of their players cos they signed nombe both panic last minute signings because we can,t find anybody else.

According to McCart this deal as been in the offing for a while. We were also linked with him in 2021 along with Sunderland and Brighton among others.

Strange signing, any better than Cundy and McCarthy?

I’m not sure why that’s a problem. If he does well we have a good season and it allows the French lad and shepherd to develop without being thrown in. If he’s incredible and we go up like you say we might sign him.

if he’s rubbish it’s just a wage for a season? Where’s the downside?

How many centre backs do we want? I find myself now kinda hoping they're going to sell Kitching for a good fee, cos otherwise this summer's business makes absolutely zero sense. Not that having an entirely new back 3 and keeper makes any more sense.

I lost count, so I had too look them up.

    Lopata
    James
    Shepherd
    De Gevigney
    McCart

To add to Cundy and McCarthy who were already here.

Plus O'Keefe and Lofthouse to add to the 2 right backs we already had, leading to Williams being used as a CB.

I'm not one to judge a player until I've watched them play, so I wish McCart luck and hope he's a world beater. Like most of our signings, I've never heard of him.

But on that note, one player I have watched play is Jack Shepherd, and he's done really bloody well in the time he's been on the field. He now appears to be our third choice left sided centre back.

There may be some coherent plan here that I'm completely missing, but to me it looks very much like "throw as much **** and you can and hope it sticks"

He’s been great but I’m not sure it would be a good idea to rely on a defender who has made such a jump up the leagues to be consistent at this level.

to be fair loads on here would be criticising the board if we were relying on him to step up. Same goes to some extent for the French lad.

As for McCarthy maybe he’s another option but funds can’t be relied on to stay fit. Maybe it’s an admission that McCarthy and Cundy aren’t that good which is fine because almost all signings are a risk.

Both right to some extent. He has only made 1 start in the league for Rotherham.
He has played in 13 games overall but the only other 4 starts were in the EFL Cup.
In his other 8 games in league and FA Cup he has played just 114 minutes. He has not been on the winning side for Rotherham outside of the EFL Cup first round.

Comments I've come across from Rotherham and Orient friends, forums and social media are overwhelmingly underwhelming, particularly that he gets bullied easily. He looks all at sea in the games against Stevenage and Hartlepool that I've seen the Orient highlights of, slightly better against Mansfield. Didn't seem to cover himself in glory on Tuesday at Stoke but they are probably a tad better than he'll meet in L1. I'm not bothered which club he has come from but his recent record doesn't seem inspiring.

Underwhelming once again. Just like our whole transfer window this summer all those plans and this is where we have ended up.
