^^This is a highly underrated point. I don't really care whether he's any good, if we can get the required chant going, it'll be the most exciting thing at Oakwell for donkeys.
I may have been negative with a host of non league signings, but has no one learnt anything with the lad from Ponty. He's had a couple of games and looks like a seasoned pro. Definitely not out of place anyway. Yes I'm slightly concerned about the sheer number of changes (again) and that we seem to have a higher turnover than I'd like, but let's give the kid a chance. We've had some players that are written off before they even get on the pitch, and turn out very decent acquisitions. Our recruitment team must get some credit at some point. Surely?
Certainly. The recruitment team got us Connell, Cadden, Phillips and Norwood last season, all for next to nothing. That was excellent work from them.
I've no issues with this signing - and I'm a member of the Tinpot Brigade I think. To be honest, I've had no issues with any of our signings over the last few years (Oulare and Iseka). I'd rather we sign this lad instead of a passed it Aiden Flint for example. Its the off the field stuff that gets my goat.
That's speculation really Peni. Would anyone have classed Plymouth as a big threat before the start of last season? Already this year we've had one regular club basher confidently predicting that two clubs were going to walk the league this year after each had had a good win. Not us of course. This year there's likely to be Derby, Bolton, Wigan, Portsmouth, Peterborough to contend with plus no doubt another couple that come out of nowhere. To think we have a divine right to finish above that lot is crazy. Who do we think we are? Plus we've had a difficult close season where our manager and best defender left. I think we'll at least get the play offs. We've got the best midfield and wing backs in the league plus one very good striker. But...there's no guarantees. This season or any other.
Again Nathan there's nothing wrong with saying we're going for it. We came within a whisker last season and if we sort the defence out quickly we should be close again. But this ridiculous idea that we have a divine right to do it and that someone is culpable if we don't is just that...ridiculous.
Its the cost though. Big wages for our level, and a decent size contract. Not something I'd want to commit to.
The statement included 'This is the weakest league one ever.' not just last season. The word used was 'ever'.
It is. As I have mentioned in the past there's been a Sheff Utd/Sunderland mixed with a few other huge spenders
Unfair. Be like saying probably a reason Luca Connell is playing for us, when we know he's too good for this level. Sometimes clubs get or hold on to players too good for them.
All this negativity.. s'hit signings s'hit board s'hit recruitment team... All gets washed away if the team wins games on a Saturday.. be back to moaning about the flat breads.. Everything is judged on the first teams results. Now if they are not good enough then uncomfortable questions will be asked..
Ask me in March, I've only seen 5 games, and even then, how do you make a judgement? Whatever the criteria is, I'm pretty sure the standard of the players in the league is much more relevant than which clubs are in it.
It's weaker in that Wednesday and Ipswich had budgets that dwarfed ours. I think you're underestimating the other clubs left or who have come down. There's no way this will be a cake walk even if we had the same squad and manager as last year.
