    Probably the fact he scored 4 goals and 2 assists in 642 mins of football for us, that's just over 7 games - having come on as sub for most of them and having to get into a game.

    Depends what you mean by bigger team, we bought Fjortoft from Sheff Utd although they were in a league below us, they are a bigger club than us. Ashley Ward from Derby

    If we're counting Aberdeen, we should also count Payton and Archdeacon from Celtic.

    Apparently signed someone else from Celtic a bit longer ago, who was apparently quite good. Just before my time though.

    Re-signing David Currie from Nottingham Forest is still the craziest signing in my lifetime if you were to consider the present day equivalence of trying to sign someone that had won the European cup 11 years earlier

    We re-signed Currie from Oldham. Forest last won the European Cup in 1980, Currie re-signed for us in September 1991.
    However, we DID sign David Geddis 18 months after he was on the bench for Villa against Bayern Munich in the European Cup Final.

    We signed Currie from Darlington originally, then from Oldham after he went there from Forest.

    Edit: Mixed up the lesser teams from the North east

    No idea why I had it in my head that we signed him straight back from Forest.

    But on the question of signing players from 'bigger; clubs that somebody raised, I'd say it was fairly common before the turn of the century. Fees and wages were more manageable, and players wanted to play. Signings like John Hendrie would never happen today, wages would just be far too high.
