Your workplace doesn't have thousands of people who pour their heart and soul into it though. It's not a good analogy to describe a normal workplace with a football club, it's not the same thing.

 

I disagree. I work in social care. A majority pour their heart and soul into it.

 

We can only guess what/why Kane is really doing here, but this time I think he's just congratulating a mate.
He might have a chip on his shoulder at the moment about some things, against the club etc, but I don't think that's relevant here.

 

Still not the same. I assume your company don't have thousands of people spending 100's and 100's a year coming to see you do your job? Not many people walking around Barnsley wearing a replica of your work top? People spending hours on YouTube or X or Facebook reliving memories of your previous work in social care? No. It's different.

 

Doesn’t alienate me. If he thinks the Club is shambolic and run by incompetents, then erm……he’s right.

 

Course it does, it’s social care. Some of our care homes cost over £2000 a week. Not many people wearing a Barnsley shirt because they’re not available until tomorrow. Unfortunately because it’s the elderly they can’t always recall memories, but they appreciate the care they’re getting in the here and now.

If it’s different it’s only in the mind of the people who think they are owed something that they aren’t. Which is more important isn’t he scheme of things? Would you rather your family was cared for in old age or that the team you support due to a geographical chance do well?

 

I seriously think you’ve got lost in this. We’re discussing a footballer tweeting. I’m not sure what that had to do with care for the elderly? Of course the work in the sector is respected but objectively this is different.

I’m saying that someone congratulating a colleague for what is essentially a promotion is absolutely normal regardless of the industry you’re in. If i a Scottish international took to Twitter to congratulate a former team mate for being called up to the England squad, would there be a problem with that?

I don't quite agree with you there, though I do think he's overrated by some, perhaps by himself. He's good technically, but he plays too many "safe" passes, too many sideways and backwards passes, and his shooting is generally very poor.

 

Kane’s interview a couple of weeks ago was pretty disgraceful, to be honest, and I’m very surprised he is still here. I have no doubt he was spoken to afterwards. As mentioned above, football isn’t like a normal workplace, but I can think of at least three blokes I worked for who would have booted me out of the company had I spoken publicly like that. Actually, make that two, as the other one would just have booted me up and down Goodge Street.

Tonight’s tweet should have been done privately, as the team will have a WhatsApp group, but also, he’s just moved to Coventry, not Barcelona, so it’s a little OTT in its own right. In light of this, and that interview, it’s difficult not to see that tweet as being petulant. Thing is, he’s not actually very good, so given our latest manager’s fiery reputation, it’s a brave move acting like this.

 

Agreed, but you are making the very bold assumption that the manager gives a flip about the club as well. What about if he's also only here until something better comes up.

Theyre a team who have been on the up for a while, got to play off final last year, and are spending big to get there again this year. Hed be on loads more money too, definitely a big step up imo.

I think we're looking into this far too much, I dont think he will be here next season however. And I think we'd cope fine. Really want cadden to sign an extension though.

 

I've just listened that Radio Sheffield interview, for whatever reason I'd not heard it.

Wow. That guy really does not want to be here. And his attitude stinks.

Asked about a contract, his answer, "I don't want to talk about that", for context, he's in his last year, if he doesn't want to talk about an extension, that means he wants to leave.

Asked about his time at Oxford, said it helped his game as he was around good players, good staff and a positive atmosphere, implying ofcorse that while he was here he wasn't playing well as he had not so good players around him led by not so good staff in a negative atmosphere.

Reading between the lines, he definitely believes that he's the real deal and we're ever so fortunate to have him.

I can only conclude that he's a bad egg. Rightly or wrongly, if it were my Club, I'd be ripping up his contract with immediate effect....perhaps that's what he's wanting? Can he not join someone after the window shuts if he's a free agent.

If not terminate his contract, he'd be training with the kids. This kind of behavior, both the interview (which was disgusting) and the tweet tonight (which was clearly pre-planned to cause uproar) needs sanctioning. To hell with the midfield, some things are bigger than a few poor results while we bed in a new central midfielder.

Haha! I'm actually not mad, just feel let down by him in a weird sort of way. The last thing the lads need, especially the younger ones, is a "senior" pro saying stuff like that in interviews and causing mayhem on X like he did last night... again, not mad, just can't believe it.
