Is our defence and back ups really that weak. We've 3 defenders who haven't kicked a ball for us yet this season but have over 650 games between them. Then we have Lopaka who already looks established,Shepard whos looked quite accomplished in his few games he has played and Mael who obviously needs more game time but could be used at a push. Not forgetting Williams who as shown before he's more than capable.
Collins needs to get the balance right for our back 3,we certainly have the experience to do so.

People have got hung up on where they've come from, rather than how they play. Lopata and Shepherd have both looked good in the short time they've been here. If anything, Kitching looked the weakest of the 3. Whether that was down to his injury or whether his head had been turned, we'll never fully know.

The problem is that experience hasn't played many games together.
    But on paper your right.
I think a top 6 is still a good chance, get our strikers firing on 4 cylinders.

Don't forget Nathan James is chomping at the bit to get in, and looks very assured so far.

Said in the other thread that in other positions on the field, I think we’ve improved.

Centre back is the unknown but with Lopata starting well in his career with us and Williams having the right centre back position, that leaves that left side for one of Shepherd (who should have the position right now after Wigan), McCart, De Gevigney and McCarthy when he’s back.

I suppose the danger is the cohesion between whichever 3 end up there but that’s down to coaching and playing time together.

I can remember a young centre half coming from lower non league years back called Mick McCarthy, he turned out alright . Oh and a forward called Mick Butler wernt too bad either.

I think a concern , but players will come in and fill the boots.
Over the years would those 2 centre backs that as just left, get in the best 30 centre half league.
    Definitely not.

The issue is it’s just about completely new so no stability.
Some unknowns who may be world beaters my worry Is the general bargain basement we are shopping in, I’d guess for every Jamie Vardy there are 1000’s who end up not making it at the level we should aspire to.
Promotion is a must and it might be a master stroke but it doesn’t seem the right way yet

Worked at Riccall Selby with Mick Butler in the early nineties had a few tales to tell about professional football. He was pulled into the office and told he'd been sold to Huddersfield, didn't want to go but they needed the money 25000 quid I think it was .

Well I never knew he went back to the pit.
Obviously he didn't earn enough as a footballer. Thanks for sharing that 1.
I remember him going to Huddersfield, I was gutted as a kid.
Maybe that's why I have got used to players coming and going over the years.

I would have liked an older head a talker organiser but its encouraging that some in the 21s look like they ready to step up. We will have cover all across the back when McCarthy and Cundy return.

I've been quite impressed with Lopata and Shepherd so far and would keep the same backline as the last game, it's gives stability and they'll only get better playing together, no one deserves to be dropped from last week. I think we'll be ok

I knew he was a sparky, as he worked with my dad at Dodeth before I started there in 77.
Never realised he got back on the tools.
