Russell took some serious abuse last season and even earlier this season but he has grown into that role and bossed the midfield again today incredible performance shows that when you give a player a chance they can come good and he’s only getting better at the minute another brilliant option to have in what I’d describe as the best midfield in the league

I've always thought that there was a good player there and was surprised town let him go.

You could tell his potential the first game he played for us, looks like this could be his season to shine!

You'd think that the amount of times players have come good eventually that some of our 'fans' would learn not to judge too soon

It's like life, most of us need time to adjust, develop, come on and make good.

We need nurturing, not sink or swim.

He's always shown glimpses of quality just needs a good run in the team to really prove his worth. Yet another player that can thrive if a manager shows belief in him.

So glad he's starting to come good. When he was signed I was excited by the signing as it's the sort of signing I like us making. Young exciting player from the league above with a point to prove.

We are now starting to see why he was a regular in a team that got into the championship play offs. Very classy player.

With Luca out he's getting the chance to shine. When we get Luca back, we might have to find room for both.

Russell has been fantastic. Calm and composed when under the cosh in the first half for 20 mins. He kept things together. Definitely a player there and I’m happy for him to fight it out with Connell when he returns.

Just shows that you should never write a player off. We’ve done it too many times as fans. Mads got dogs abuse. Watters is getting it a bit this season. There always seems to be a whipping boy and we’ve got to stop.

Some players just fit certain clubs and others don’t.

He was MoM at Wigan last week for me. Not been today but my lad has and he says he’s bossed it again.
Now looking the player I thought he was.

Was critical of Russell after last season and particularly his failure to affect the play off final when he came on but if he's got his head down and started to perform am glad for the lad and can only be good for the club..happy to admit being wrong..

Was hard for rus last year coming into a team that was in good form, he’s was obviously lacking confidence the goal for Jamaica did him the world of good.

I think Kane could be the one to miss out when Luca is back. Not on great form at the moment

I think because he looks slow he gets criticised, he's not dynamic, speedy, or runs around like a loony, but he is steady and what you might call dependable.
    Could be what is required.

    The lad is deceptive.
Looks languid but by god he's class.

Not really rocket science that a player needs consistent game time to realise his full potential. Dallas and Shaw being loned out is not a reflection on the players ability, just an admission that they are not guaranteed a regular run in team.

Herbie Kane is incredibly overrated in my opinion, the odd glimpse of his capabilities, but overall a passenger for most games.

It crossed my mind that Kane might be the one to make way, although I thought he was excellent at Wigan. Nice problem for the manager to have, as the old saying goes.
