Anyone know why the other, higher ranked Barnsley Ladies team fell out with Barnsley FC? Surely the town only needs one Barnsley Ladies? The other team have the better players but now we've gone professional, wouldn't it make sense to join ranks?

The football was secondary to the occasion today. They know they've got a lot of work to do but now have a lot more support to do it, so they'll improve no end through the season. Considering Alnwick are one of the better sides in the league, I think they'll be competitive when they get going. All about progressing through the leagues and building as they go.

Hope the kid that went off injured in the first half recovers quickly, looked a bad one.

    100%.

I thought we could be in trouble after the first 10mins, but then saw that despite Alnwick’s superiority, they weren’t doing much with it.

It’ll be good to see this team develop week by week.

I honestly don’t know to be honest

I was just shocked that majority of our team looked massively overweight and not very good at football

I think there were/are barriers re the womens and ladies teams at organisation level. Bit of a fallout. Nowt to do with the hierarchy at oakwell I believe.

It wasn’t brilliant football and I wasn’t expecting it to be. I almost burst into tears when they came out though, just seeing a women’s team playing ‘on Oakwell’ was very special to me. There’s no way I’d have ever left early on such an occasion (I’m not saying you shouldn’t have, it’s your day obviously) no matter what the score line or ability; I was there to support the team on their new season.

Good crowd today, but easy on a lovely warm day. Have to work hard to get people watching when we head towards winter.

Not a great game, but it was off the field that let the club down.
Scanners not working - I'd got my free ticket (for £1) and showed it, she was taking a tally of who numbers let in.
Club shop and box office closed after the match. I'd always expect them to be open after the game.
The streets were coned off as if we were expecting 30k, not 3k.

That said, the bridge is looking well.

Onward and upward for the lasses.

I wonder what the reaction was from some of the fans after the first ever game in 1887 for Barnsley St. Peters?
"That was rubbish, Reverend. It'll never take off. Let's stick to rugby".

I saw a mens' Northern Counties East game yesterday that was no better than today's. Men have been playing at that level since the game began, and people still turn up to watch so they seem to have "cut it"
