With no game at the weekend I would go strong. Rest a few big hitters by all means. Cosgrove for Cole, Dodgson for Cadden etc, but I want us to try and win the game.
I've completely ignored this competition since the Greed League got its sticky hands all over it. For me I think we should treat it as a pre season friendly to integrate our new players and give the defence an opportunity to gel.
The only thing that devalues the competition for me is not having the under 21 matches away from home. A lot of lower League clubs can only dream about visiting a St James Park, Old Trafford, Anfield or Goodison. Maybe League clubs would take it more seriously if there was a financial incentive or spark for the fans of going away to a Premier League ground?
I do go along with the idea that if we're going to enter a competition, then we should take it seriously and put out strong team. We don't gain anything at all from treating it as a pre season type match, and the longer that teams keep doing this, the more pointless it becomes.
No. It's the Football League Trophy. The clue's in the question. Non league have the FA Trophy and the FA Vase. The FA Cup and Football League Cup are dominated by the Greed League and to a lesser extend the Championship. The FL Trophy was conceived to give the lower divisions a competition that they could enter with a realistic chance of winning. And it was working fine until the Greed League turned it into a place where they could use some of the hundreds of kids they hoover up and never have any other use for. And it won't stop there, now the pathway has opened up it'll be B teams in OUR leagues next. That's when I give up altogether.
Wasn't it originally the Associate Members cup, for teams in the Third and Fourth Divisions (in the 80s). And the First and Second Division teams had the Full Members cup. And just think of all the different named sponsors these Cup's have had since then.
Not sure on rules and regs but I’d be trying to get it as close as possible: Killip Dodgson McCart Shepherd de Givegney O’Keffee (if fit) Phillips Nejman Chapman McAtee Marsh It’s a shame Charlie Winfield is injured as these are the type of games he would have given some good opportunities in.
Our keeper kept us in the game again at the weekend. Our defence need as much time as possible together so they should all start.
No game Saturday changes matters. I suspect the team tomorrow to be stronger than it would have been if we still had Portsmouth on Saturday.
Yep, the idea seems to be to give a chance to young players to play, whilst theoretically keeping a core of experienced players in the teams too. Otherwise it'd just be an academy competition, of which we already have. But each year since we won it, it seems to get less and less important, and it wasn't very important then (though I thoroughly enjoyed our trophy win and it helped turn our form around of course).

Should be team that started on Saturday for me, win the match early then make changes, it won’t happen
I'd like us to have a go this year, petsonally. Gave the whole town a buzz last time we went for the glory
It's a bit ambiguous that. By very strong, it means first team players, though not necessarily the ones who have been starting week in week out. So expect Cole, Cadden, Lopata, Kane, Williams, Cotter and Roberts to be rested I reckon.
I don’t know if he’ll rest Roberts or perhaps Łoptata. Probably the rest of them though. Like you say 1st Team doesn’t mean first 11, but it does probably mean not many u21s
Oh sorry, Mr EFL. We would have picked these players in our next game but unfortunately they all picked up an injury and are unavailable...
