Henderson has done an interview with The Athletic in regards to his move to Saudi Arabia which has basically cast him in a terrible light, here are some of the main bullet points and a horrific quote:

    - Did not move to Saudi Arabia for money
    - "sorry" for LGBT hurt
    - Feels like he can make a positive change
    - Wants to respect religion/culture

""If I wear the rainbow armband, if that disrespects their religion, then that’s not right either."

"Everybody should be respectful of religion and culture. That’s what I think we’re all trying to fight for here in terms of inclusion and everything."

"You know, years ago, for instance, women or kids probably couldn’t play football, but now I’m over there and there’s loads of women and girls playing football, so slowly things can change."

Bad stuff, just shows you throw enough money at someone they'll forget their principles and jump through any hoops you put out.

I'm pretty certain he didn't move to Saudi in order to improve the lot of women and kids over there.

Read the article earlier on BBC. Just think sometimes it is perhaps best to keep quiet if you want to go and do what he's done. Saying it wasn't about the money is laughable.

Saying you're hurt by the criticism is never going to end well.

He'll come out when he's made more money and retires.

He underwent correction therapy as a child at Sunderland. He's championed LGBT rights.

Then he goes to an over emasculated culture where it's illegal.

He is a hypocrite but you can see why he's distancing himself from questions about his sexuality and beliefs as much as he can.

Ha ha almost believed something he stated there.
So he moved there to make a difference and the money had nothing to do with it?
So if he was been paid less, would he have gone?....mmmmmm.
I used to live in the middle east a few years ago. Women were only just been allowed to drive motorcars, so they have come on bit!!
Absurdly no one goes out there for any other reason than money.

Burnt his bridges with a lot of folk. Possibly even family and friends among em. . Prepared to take the flack early doors. It'll die down eventually.
Grab the money and run. Philosophy.
No moral compass at all. Neither has Gerrard imo.
Makes a mockery of Mick McCarthy's statement of anyone would go for the money. Which I found disturbing.

Used the old fashioned term. He wasn't sure which way he swung as a child. Sunderland put him through therapy.

I think you mean conversion therapy? And where's the source for this or is it just rumour?

I'm pretty sure it would be a huge thing if that was true. No way is that true.

Everybody knows he's there for the money, I think people care because he's come out and tried to deny that.

They also care because he was a big LGBT ally for years and then he's chosen to go play in a state that is completely against what he previously stood for.

The bloke is a morally bankrupt, hypocritical b*lend. Actions speak louder than words and nine more so than in this case.

If he just fronted up and said, look this changes the lives of myself and future generations of my family for many years to come I reckon people would have thought it was still wrong but at least respected his priorities.
To sit there and try to spin it as not about the money and somehow helping the improvement of human rights over there is just bs.

I've read it wrong apologies. In December 2020, Henderson responded on Twitter to a fan who said that the club had helped deal with his sexual orientation during his teenage years and early adulthood. Henderson stated that if by wearing rainbow laces as Premier League captains helped at least one person, it was progress. He further stated that "everyone is welcome at Liverpool Football Club", sparking positive reactions from fans and LGBT organisations.[154] Kop Outs, the official LGBT Liverpool supporters group said of Henderson's response as "an immensely important moment which touched a chord with all Reds fans."[155]

The problem is he had generational wealth regardless of whether he moved. It's not as if his alternative was a minimum wage job. The impact of the extra money on his family's financial position will be very little in real terms.
