VACANCY | FIRST TEAM PHYSIOTHERAPIST Club News An exciting opportunity has arisen to work with us here at Barnsley Football Club as First Team Physiotherapist. Continue reading on the official site...
Am I alone in thinking that this "Barnsley Football Club is committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships." Is a weird thing to put on a job advert?
It's a standard thing on a job advert that - I applied for a job recently at Rotherham Council and that was plastered all over the ad. They paid more than 30k too.
Saying a line or two about being a company inclusive of all would have been enough, rather than listing everything.
Are the things listed things that shouldn't be discriminated against because they have protection in law ?
£30k to look after players that have cost hundreds of thousands & after putting in years and years of medical training. Something wrong in that equation to be honest.
Not so much that. As if a person looking for their first post gets their foot in the door. It'll not be long b4 they look elsewhere during their tenure at more/better financial opportunities, elsewhere. And in the football world, could be lucrative. Eg we offer 50k isn't going to stop em looking elsewhere. When the opportunity arises.
I was also surprised by the paucity of the wages relative to the huge responsibility and highly qualified nature of the work. If you're living alone and having to put a roof over your head at current market rental rates, £30k isn't much above subsistence wages these days.
An ex player told me that while he was injured he gave whoever was involved in his rehabilitation a little bonus.. he says most players do this
It doesn't take a cluedo world champion to figure out who you're on about. Fair play to him and the other players that do this, they clearly recognise more than their employers what vital work out medical staff do.
On face value it does seem low/strange etc, just done a quick search though and found the following: Peterborough - Lead Academy Physio £30-£32k Norwich - Physio -£28k West Ham - Club Physio £30k Brentford - upto £50k. So seems that is around the going rate.
It doesn't seem two minutes ago that this position was previously advertised. Did the previous incumbent leave or was the post not filled back then? Seems like we can't keep staff these days whereas once upon a time staff were at Oakwell for a long time.
Physiotherapy - and sports physiotherapy - are separate degree specializations to medicine. Its still a 3 year degree, or a degree plus an extra year to specialize...
