To get us started. Marc Roberts - Halifax Town Martin Bullock - Eastwood Town Darren Sheridan - Winsford Utd
Didn't Marc Roberts leave because the club refused to make him a millionaire overnight? Heard in the pub that he'd have stayed at Barnsley if he'd have been made for life. (Probably tosh).
Sheridan. (Certainly a wild card) Hands down for me. due to where he came from and age at the time. (26) plus the length of time he spent with us. Imagine the fall out on here of the signing, if it was present day.
Definitely Sheridan. He gave Redfearn the freedom to do what Redfearn did best. Real wand of a left foot and some real bite in midfield. Top player who never got the recognition he deserved due to a fantastic team at the time with individuals who scored goals from midfield. Not just that but also the level on the pyramid he came from which was lower than Pinnock which for me gives him a better edge overall. Would love another one of him in todays team. Our Roy Keane.
I wish Pinnock wouldn't have changed to Jamaica, I'm sure he would have made the England squad, saying that Southgate as a love in with Maguire so he's probably made the right choice
I'll propose some players from longer ago in our history including the top 3 scorers in our history: Ernest Hine - signed from Staincross Station, went on to score 131 goals for us, 156 for Leicester (third top scorer in their history) and 18th top goalscorer in football league history with 287 goals. Was sold for what was then a big fee and then later came back! George Lillycrop - signed from North Shields Adelaide, scored 104 goals and is still our record scorer in the FA Cup with 12 goals. Played in both 1910 and 1912 cup finals and again was sold for what was then a big fee when he went to Bolton. Lol Chappell - signed from Birdwell Rovers, scored 95 goals for us. Was top scorer in 54/55, 57/58 and 58/59. Still holds the record for the most hat-tricks during his time with us - 6. And what about Tommy Taylor - signed from Smithies United. Or a bit more recent, record appearance holder Barry Murphy - signed from South Shields. Or one of my favourites, Mick Butler - signed from Worsbrough Bridge.
Pinnock best by some distance since I've been watching. Roberts was a good defender but limited footballer.
If that means the best FOR us and not best after moving on, then that as to be Bully and Shez having played for us in the Prem

Could argue that Pinnock was technically a League 2 player as they had won promotion and the season had ended, albeit a ball hadn't been kicked. Hopefully Jack Shepherd is going to raise the bar.
