What to make of this... https://news.sky.com/story/amp/engl...ndependent-regulator-government-says-12956743
Just pointless window dressing, completely ineffectual. Imagine a situation where the Super League clubs decide that they don't want to play in the Champions League, and want to keep midweek free for their ties. Rather than withdrawing from the CL they don't register any senior players, and turn out the u18s. Meanwhile the first team is playing a "testimonial" friendly against another Super League club on YouTube for £14.99. What is the regulator going to do? Ban them from playing? Force the club to be sold? Bit too much like communist China. And I can't see a government backed regulator blocking Saudi money. Just another scheme for Sunak to try to impress the proles.
So what was initially advertised as a resolve to sort out the game has been turned into a whole load of nothing. I wonder how much "lobbying" (backhanders) went into that climb down.
