Barnsley’s best ever strikers

Nardiello nowhere near others on that list. Likeable but a joke really he’s made that. Since I’ve been watching them, Bruce Dyer best in that list.

 

Alan Clarke was pretty good

 

Best I’ve seen in my time watching them, which is 30 years:

Ashley Ward is top of the bunch. Shipperley, Dyer, Winnall, Payton, Morris, Moore, Woodrow make my top ten - as do Dike and McBurnie despite their short tenure.

Also close - Nardiello was never onside, Sheron would be near the top if he could be arsed - so much ability - Fjortoft was good, Rammel when he was fit, Hendrie and Wilkinson.

But I’d say Ward is head and shoulders above the rest when looking at those in my time.

 

Ward and Geddis were superb strikers, the latter had a strike rate better than 1 in 2.

But whilst he wasn't quality in the purest sense, I adored Steve Cooper.

 

Bit disappointed in owd Joe here. Some stinkers on that list! All opinion like.

I know this is a strikers thread but…..that team! Fantastic doesn’t do it justice.

 

Ernest Hine is my Grandads cousin. I do sometimes wonder why I was bang average at Association football

 

From the players I can really remember it's Dyer number 1, but I was really young when he was playing.

I know this will probably be controversial but I felt that if we could have replaced Parker in that team with a 20 goals a season man we’d have made it to the top division. That said, he was very easy on the eye and I loved watching him play.

Walker scored a fair few that season. Parker was injured for a lot of it and of course the way we played generated a lot of goals from midfield.

 

That’s a pretty good list but no David Hirst? Before he got injured at Leeds he was brilliant

 

Surely best have to be best ones at highest level so Ward, Fjortoft, Hendrie.

 

I wouldn't say he was our greatest. Most likely Wednesday's, but he wouldn't get in my top 15. We had loads better down the years

 

I suppose it depends on what you mean by greatest. He had a pretty good career afterwards (if we can get over who for) but when he settled in the side for us he was exceptional, especially the night we beat Leeds at Oakwell (3-0?) albeit not for long so limited impact for us. A bit like Stones has blossomed after leaving.

 

Agree with that. I wouldn’t consider anyone who didn’t play for us for a couple of seasons. Wouldn’t include Carlton Morris as he was always injured. What about Eddie Loyden?
