A think theres so many things we could pick from rugby, the most obvious is the respect they show to the referee but for me the main one is the clock…..why on earth can’t we have the 4th official stopping and starting the clock then finishing on the stroke of 90 instead of pissing about with 9 minutes in the first half then 12 in the second half!! A know the game of rugby goes on past 80 mins when the clock is stoped but there version of managing time just seems far far better than ours……… These 4th officials for me could be way more productive than just stood there holding a board up for subs and asking the managers to keep in their box……..they all liaise with ear sets so why can’t they be put more to use? Same as VAR, rugby’s seems more advanced than ours too, although a thought the red card yesterday was harsh
Re timekeeping, the reason for keeping football's system is obvious. It's easy for corrupt officials to manipulate.
I think the way we have it now has vastly improved game time R. Rarely see physio. Cos players have to go off for 30 secs minimum. But as you say the 4th official. Is mainly redundant. Eg jobs he could do in charge of game time. . If a player causes game to be stopped. While ball still in play Stop clock immediately. Make him go off pitch regardless if physio comes on or doesn't. When a ball goes for a throw stop watch. but set timer to allow 10 seconds run on max say. Free kick/Goal kick/ 20 secs run on max. And like union after 90mins game continues till ball is dead. All could be tied to stadium clock. Takes it all out of the refs hands.
Well there are similar inconsistencies shown already to football, the England sending off yesterday and ‘ no action’ for similar from A South African player in the first half against Scotland
It did improve but this added time is barmy……get the 4th official to have a second opinion on big shouts like penalties offsides red cards etc and man the clock…….clock stops for goals subs injuries and restarts soon as the ball is live, stroke of 90 whistle goals, game over……..we’re now seeing added on time on added time when there’s 12 minutes being put up
With respect, Mr Brush I couldn't disagree more. Having a designated timekeeper could only make the added time scenario more transparent.
I think you misread my post. The reason football won't change is because the current system is opaque and open to corruption. That's why they want to keep it.
