A fine day 1 against Glamorgan at the moment with all but Wharton chipping in with a score. Another masterclass by Bean. His days playing for Yorkshire are getting more and more numbered with every game.
Impressive score building this but need to be careful. The last 4 consecutive days dry weather at Sophia Gardens was around 1877
Is anybody there in the ground? Watching on Youtube and there's about a dozen people I can see. How does county cricket survive?
In simple terms, it wouldn’t survive without sizeable funding from the ECB. They make money from other formats and television rights etc
So in a similar way all the struggling football clubs could rely on Sky, BT Sports and the premier league and the EFL and FA to survive. But that will never happen.
Glamorgan are going to get away with this. Almost caught Yorkshire’s 500 in their second innings. Mind you, get these two out and the rest might collapse. Weather looks good at least but we need a breakthrough
Sun and a bit of cloud so a good chance of getting them all in, except the light could interfere. They ended yesterday with spinners both ends because it was too gloomy for pace.
Fun fact - local-ish lad Ben Sanderson, who got a hat trick for Northants today & is possibly the most criminally under rated red ball bowler in England - his Dad is a big red.
I know the weather has been a contributor to results, but there’s been over 2 dozen draws in Div 2 so far. It seems that the pitch at Cardiff made a draw very likely. I watched some of the game on YouTube and, to put it mildly, it certainly won’t encourage me to visit a County game.
I notice Glamorgan have Drawn 11 of 13 games W1 L1. like you, I'd struggle to be enticed. Only time I ever rolled up at Headingly a for league game. Circa 1976. 3 or 4 of us wagged tech. Got there and it started chucking it down afore game started. Finished up in leeds ont p155.
