    Than UK national anthem?

    I really wish England

    Would just adopt Jerusalem

    Its far less divisive

    Annoys far fewer people

And saves the embarassment on the international stage

Why cant England have one of its own anyway :eek::eek::eek:

And did those feet in ancient time
    Walk upon England's mountain green?

    Nope

And was the holy Lamb of God
    On England's pleasant pastures seen?

    No, no he wasn't

Must admit when I see the French, Rep Irish,Scots and the Italian anthem i wish we had something more stirring. Trouble with the older ones they have all sorts of connotations so something modern just for our sporting teams maybe.

I agree. The Italian anthem is superb.

I can't get my head or ears around the Scottish anthem. It's a bit too convoluted.

Neither the Marseillaise or the Italian anthem wouldn't get passed here, all about killing your enemies.

Isn't the Scottish anthem all about packing off the English 700 years ago.

The French one translated is quite gruesome.

    Arise, children of the Fatherland
Our day of glory has arrived
Against us the bloody flag of tyranny
is raised; the bloody flag is raised.
Do you hear, in the countryside
The roar of those ferocious soldiers?
They’re coming right into your arms
To cut the throats of your sons, your comrades!

    To arms, citizens!
    Form your battalions
    Let’s march, let’s march
    That their impure blood
    Should water our fields.

The Italian one is a little more like the Scottish one of driving their enemies out like you say.

I'm not a big fan of 'Flower of Scotland'. I've no problem with it as a folk song but it's a little too backwards looking and insular in it's representation of Scotland. For balance, I can't stand 'God Save the Monarchy' either :)

People labour under the delusion that the French Revolution was some kind of triumph of the enlightenment and freedom, whereas in reality it was a bunch of murderous nutters getting more and more murderous and nutty, ending with replacing the monarchy with a psychotic proto-fascist emperor who laid waste to most of Europe, yeah a real story of how well revolutions tend to go.
