Any recommendations for places to drink? It's been 20 plus years since I lived there for uni. On my stag...

Brew York is likely, as is BrewDog.

Any places that do pub games to keep it a bit interesting would be good too. Ta!

Pub run from High Petergate to Stonegate. We had a nice meal at Las Iguanas last time I was there

Golden Ball is a great little pub, I also quite like the Black Sheep pub in the centre. If you want some food, genuinely Doner Summer is outstanding if you can get in. Vegan, but you wouldn’t barely know.

If the weather's nice get yourself to Spark York especially if you fancy eating. Container type, box park thing with bars and street food vendors. @ark104 (v2) had a lot of involvement in its creation and I think it's a great addition to York.

Brew York just round the corner is good also and so is the Yuzu Japanese street food they serve in the Beer Hall.

As you head from Brew York up towards the city centre on Foss Gate there's Foss Gate Social, Cosy Club, The Hop and Foss Gate tap which are all worth having a pint in.

The Market Cat in Shambles Market is a nice boozer that sells Thornbridge ale so nice for a pint of Jaipur which I love. 3 floors of seating overlooking the market so you can usually get somewhere to sit and drink

From there, go to Valhalla and Pivni on Patrick Pool just off the market.

Both House of trembling madnesses sell a great selection of ales. One's on Stone Gate and the other on Lendl

The Fat Badger has a great beer garden if the weather's good. Food nice as well.

For pub games, how about some axe throwing at The Hilt? :) Beer and axes. What could go wrong :)

I can vouch for that with regard Doner Summer. It was originally in Spark York and I didn't realise it was Vegan until the second time I'd ordered.

There's an amazing Indian on Foss Gate called Kalpakavadi. Serves incredible South Indian food so a bit different from your average British curry house.

I really like the little place in York that does the Cali burritos, they did some vegetarian/vegan burritos, was excellent. Can also vouch for Yuzu, super duper stuff!

Stay away from the main central tourist pubs and go over the foot bridge from the train station and many a nice quieter pub are just over the other side.

Pretty much 20 years since I was there at university as well. I hear from people who have been more recently that the rook and gaskill is still good.

If he was there in the early 2000s then he'll know that the appropriate last port of call is the Lowther, for a late night pint of John Smith's Magnet. No idea if it's still going!
