Less than 1% of Dog bites require medical treatment apparently

And theres 11-12 million dogs in UK so gives bit of context to the stats

 

A jack Russell once bit my son when he was about 3. The dog was brought up by responsible owners Maybe we should ban Jack Russell's too? I think the thing is if the dogs like xl bully's, cane corse, Akitas etc turn there more than big enough to kill a child.

 

Let's not forget all dogs are wolfs deep inside and will have that hunting instinct.
Common sense needs to prevail.
There are good and bad in all owners and beeeds of dogs. Judge al individual events and issues in their iwn merits.
Yes there is a need to ban certain breeds.
As a responsible owner I do agree in bringing back the license.
If you have a banned Breed in the future unless it attacks enforce it to wear a mussel and they have to be neutered. That way family pets don't have to be put down and eventually the breed naturally disappears.

I'd add you to the list if you included staffies. One of the gentlest breeds going. The Victorians called them 'nanny dogs' as they were so safe and careful around children. Give your head a shake, you spanner.

I think it was the English bull terriers (the one with the long faces) that got called "nanny dogs"

I really agree with this. In my mind if you have a dog above a certain size, which would be 25 / 30kg maybe... then you should need a license. That fee should pay for wardens & the owner should have a laminated licence on the dog's collar. Anyone not displaying it should have the dog impounded & the owner arrested & fined. All responsible owners would comply.

Anyone in possession of a violent dog should be vicariously responsible for any injury to a person. That could be manslaughter / GBH.

Whatever you do, it won't end it, but the Tory rhetoric won't stop anything. Breeders will get round it.

 

I agree with this. Anyone who has a dog capable of doing damage to a person regardless of breed should be strictly liable for any unprovoked injury caused.

 

It's just like owning a gun, a knife, a baseball bat, whatever.

I love dogs & walk 3 dogs, two poodle crosses, (a cavapoo & cockerpoo & a border terrier). Where I walk them now if Headingley / Meanwood in Leeds you don't get too many bad owners. Wasn't always the case. I once had to fight a German Shepherd, owned by a smack head, whose dog attacked my Jack Russell, Fuzzy, while I was at a grocer's shop on Green Lane in Headingley. Kicked it on the nose twice, balls 3 times, then the smack head came at me. He landed in the middle of a pile of fruit & veg. I gave the shop owner £30 for any damage & then kicked the smack head in the head one more time. I'm sure under the law I was in the wrong.

 

I think all the scrotes should carry knives in case their pals hard dog attacks them. That'll sort it

 

I'd ban the Tory government. Its policies kill far more people than dogs.

I understand that. When I was younger a neighbour had two of them and they were so soft and friendly. I never felt in any danger even if they were both jumping up at me at the same time playing as they did. But my mate who had a ******* Yorkshire Terrier I wasn't going to his unless he made sure it wasn't going to be around....

When I lived on burton bank Road up monk bretton as a yooof int 80's, blowk just up street had a rottie called Bull it was ******* mental we used to **** ourselves if one us kicked the football and it landed in their garden.
Then again my Mrs uncle had a rottie and it was the most gentle docile dog you could wish for.

My mam and dad's cocker spaniel was the most unhinged dog I've personally experienced..bit through my hand as a nipper and was just an all round nasty ******, my aunty jeans cocker was the same.......sithi.

 

People who have these types of dogs that can kill are the same ones who want to have wolves reinstated into the country side. But the law is you are responsible for having your animal under control.control big or small it's the same for them all.
