Really is fantastic isn't it. Looks amazing In fact credit to the club the whole ground is looking pretty decent this season. Without spending a bit more cash (and I understand why they won't at the moment) it will never look stunning but the little bits they have done do look good. The red paint looks good, the bollards at the corner of east and ponty, it's a stupid little thing but it looks so good. The names on the ponty and north stands look fantastic. Paying that bit extra for individual letters makes all the difference. Does anyone have any suggestions for any low cost visual improvements that could be done?
I thought the pitch was in pretty bad condition yesterday. Just in the areas where the players warm up (noticeable in front of North end of east stand) it was cut up with small chunks of soil / sand visible. Last season it was pretty much immaculate all year.
It always cuts up when they train but It appears to just be superficial because it comes good again quite quickly
Sweet. I’ve only seen it on telly. I nearly went yesterday, but wasn’t leaving the old Teddier home alone, 2 days in a row.. As regards visual improvements. We could try bringing Ashley Ward out of retirement. Reight, girls..?
Thierry used to practice shooting at Highbury with youth goalies, wingers etc. He said, even if he couldn’t see the goalposts, he got his bearings from the stands & knew exactly where it was, even with his back to goal. That’s what fcked him up a bit, when they moved to the new ground..
Why did the ladies playing on the artificial pitch today? What’s the point of making all the noise about having a ladies team at Oakwell and then farming them out to the training ground. Can’t build a fanbase if you keep doing that.
I think it’s great for them to have the odd game on the main pitch but I don’t see why it is necessary or moreover why them playing on the Astro (where there is adequate seating) would prevent them building a fan base. I’m sure if demand for the matches was significant enough there would be a consideration of having all games on the main pitch.
I think ours has been one of the best in the league for as long as I can remember. ( apart from the odd couple of seasons where major work had to be done) Ours does look great again. But I would love to know if the Cheltenham pitch is Grass or Hybrid That was as good as I've ever seen whatever it was.
They will get other chances to play on the main pitch. Academy teams don't play on the main pitch either.
I’d be happy if the women’s team plays on Oakwell every time the men aren’t at home the same week. Don’t think Man Utd women play on Old Trafford ever do they? Why are we making a big deal about it? The pitch will only hold up for so many games, and on another thread there are some saying it looks like it’s cutting up just from teams warming up on it?
tbf you can’t have a good playing surface with twice as many games on it either, so the main team comes first
What’s the point of making a big issue of saying we have a women’s team and then not letting them use the same ground. It’s not my issue. Perhaps we should start making the men’s first team use the training ground then for matches?
You can’t be serious! It’s been seen in the past too many games ruin pitches, so you are saying that we should risk our main income ? p
If the men’s team drew a crowd that would fit into the stand on the Astro then you would be right. As it exceeds that you’re talking rubbish. Also, it very much feels like it’s your issue.
