I don't know if transportation affects the product. But Cameron's lager was the worst. Sold around south yorkshire in a few pubs in the late 70s early eighties. (Pig n whistle you couldn't give it away. Warned mi mates but got rebuked for ordering a Gin. About a dozen pints left on the table lol) But when venturing north east where it is still brewed. was and maybe is a decent drink.
Back in the 1980s I was on a football tour in Oz. We were taken around Foster’s Kent Brewery in Sydney where we sampled Fosters and Carlton. Both were excellent but with the passage of time they’ve gone downhill like most popular stuff. I’m not a big lager drinker but the best IMO I’ve sampled were Anchor/Tiger and San Miguel Red Horse in the Philippines.
All depends on the scenario. If you're on holiday round the pool in 28 degree heat - then all lager is brilliant. If you've worked a 50 hour week in the pouring rain and you've popped into the Rugby Club on a Friday evening - then all lager is gash.
Bud is rancid. Heineken seems to have gone downhill over the years. Big fan of Madri but I quite like cheap, tasting lager.
The worst lager in my memory was Castlemaine 4x which was in most Tetley houses in the seventies and eighties. I didn’t drink much of it but the taste stays with me ….
Not a lager drinker at all, but I can actually live with Madri. Hophouse 13 is another one I can tolerate. My favourite non-lagery lager is Cold Front from Brewdog. Described as a 'Viennese Lager', but it's bloody lovely. Still working my way through the 48-can case I ordered when it was on massive discount.
