Difficult to judge whether he made them better, the season before they were up against Championship teams, when he had them they were up against L1 teams, so were always going to look better. Guess the proof will be in how those that have left do at their Championship/ Prem clubs this year.

Struber was just a red bull merchant who used an english club as a spring board for new york

At least he never pretended to be here for life either

When a team has 5 players sent off, they automatically lose 3-0 - irrespective of the score. What happens if both teams get the fifth player sent off at the same time?

Dont agree Duff made Andersen & Collins better

They were good for Barnsley in the championship

    And I would have thought

Kitching & Williams would naturally look better with the significant drop in opposition

Val had us two games from the Premier League and gave us some rare happy moments at an horrible time for all of us.

MLH lied about loyalty and didn't get us out of the third division.

Collins has made decent start with a new promising group. There is no vacancy, so, no. I think Duff did great last season, but that's done now & put to bed. I think he made a poor choice joining Swansea, but if he's sacked he'll get a better pay day than managing us for a couple more years & get another decent L1 job IMO.

I'm totally behind Collins, so respect to @exiled for the post. I think the results say it all, which may well have been his intention in posting.

I think with Val we didn't have the same attachment with Covid and everything plus he never said he was here for the long haul. Also we knew Mozart would leave if we didn't get promotion. Murray we knew looked after no.1 so no big surprise him going with Val either.

Both failed to get us promoted, but Duff got closer, the team/club was in significantly worse state when Duff came in.
Did Duff lie about loyalty or did he mean it when he said it and then change his mind?

    Like I said interesting

I agree there was little attachment but ultimately he did the same as Duff stayed one year but everyone looks on fondly.
I just find it interesting that people put so much importance to Duff talking about being loyal as they say a week is a long time in football.

Totally different division. The level of the Championship to L1 is a massive gulf. We were in a playoff final with Bassett & it was a narrow result vs Swansea too. You are not in any way comparing like with like, or people would be talking up Stendel, or Hecky...

I think he'll turn it around at Swansea given time. He's not a great fit for a possession based side, but he's a competent if pragmatic manager.

No, I’m not comparing the two at all my point was both were employed with the aim of promotion, both failed and both left.
There are lots of factors that make it impossible to compare, IV had better players & team was in better place when he joined, Duff came to a basket case and had to mould a team from literally nothing.
On the flip side Championship is a much higher standard to is harder.
Oh and I also think IV was lucky to get Dyke but so was Duff with Thomas.

Yeah, not getting argumentative, but you have to rate things on levels. Both Bassett & Val transformed teams that were struggling to some extent at Championship level. Yes, they had good players, but they got a system together that made the best of them & both got close to the promised land. I think our target now is just to get back to the Championship & hopefully stay up. It is what it is.

How much of that was down to Duff though?
Anderson- poor Championship defender year before
Bobby Thomas - couldn’t get in lower League one side
Cole - most on here wanted rid after a poor first year
Connell - only played in Scottish L2 level

Totally agree, I’m not slating Val at all, nor am I saying Duff was better, I’m saying I think both did a good job for us in different circumstances.
I just don’t understand some peoples hang up on the ‘loyalty’ comments.

There is no loyalty in football, from fans, chairmen, managers, or players.

Warnock knows this, which is why he walked, no doubt with a decent pay out.

    eh?

Andersen was key player in ismael season. Had been a good championship player for over a year when we were relegated

And Bfc's aims for big val were literally to stay up, he blew all aspirations out of the water, it was a miracle he performed
