They got compensation but earlier in the thread you suggested he did to get the club compensation, but now your saying he signed it to protect himself etc if that’s correct his primary reason clearly wasn’t to get the club compo. I’m not judging him on his decision just trying to get to the bottom of why he would do it if he was pissed at the club(as per my earlier post).
So from this thread Hecky signed the new deal well before the Leeds interest. It was the boards fault why things turned bad with 1 win in 17 games before he went. It was also the players fault for this. Paul Heckingbottom takes no responsibility for the poor football or 1 win in 17 games before he went. The bloke contradicts his self all the time in interviews, the blaming of the refs last week got absolutely laughed at by most and the presenters on motd. The topics been done to a death on here like I said barnsley fan and barnsley lad so many would have sang he's one of our own while we were dropping down the leagues. I'm glad he did well at Sheffield United after 2 not good spells at Leeds and hibs hopefully he can turn things around at Sheffield United avoid the sack and keep them up big ask though.
What I took from what I've read and what he said (I'm not his mate or anything, we happened to be at the same do and I spoke to him) is that his mind was pretty much made up that he was going, but it certainly wouldn't hurt him to sign a new a new contract as it was more pay, and it would mean more componensation for him if he was sacked. But he believed it was far more likely he would be going to another club and the contract was actually more beneficial to Barnsley FC. Yes, he wasn't happy, but not to the point where he wanted to screw the club over. That's my interpretation, it is not fact. I just don't think I've written anything contradictory to my interpretation.
Also from this thread. Narrow minded Barnsley folk hitting out at local guy made good. Jealously is pretty ugly.
I rarely disagree with Luke Goddard, who used to be one of the main fans on the original Tykes Tv. But that day when he and big Steve were ranting after our defeat at Derby and relegation, and Morais leaving or getting sacked straight after the game. He said that we'd have stayed up under Hecky, because he's got passion and determination for the club etc. Well that wasn't the case was it in that run of 1 win in 17, that wasn't the form of a team who would stay up. And I think we all know Paul himself had had enough long before then.
Hecky would have kept us up had he stayed I’m sure of it. The bloke was shafted big style, he ended up with some right tripe at that level, Brad Potts was massively overweight for starters! He had to adopt a more defensive approach becaus the squad at his disposal was atrocious, he even hinted to that after the pre season friendly drubbing against Rotherham!
Well, we will never know that for sure so it just comes down to all our opinions. Morais had us within a few minutes of safety on the final day though, due to other teams results. So that maybe suggests Hecky would have done better if he'd stayed... maybe!.
That’s a very good point actually. It’s easy to list a load of names that became good players in time but most of them were way off it fitness wise. Of the new signings that summer that we saw straight away their were only Lindsay who’d been playing regularly in Scotland, Williams who’d done a full pre-season with premier league Everton & I’d say Bradshaw looked pretty sharp. The rest of them Potts, Moncur, McGeehan, Kpekawa, Thiam, Ugbo, Barnes etc were nowhere near the required standard from a fitness point of view.
I'd disagree but I think morais was a incredibly bad appointment. Any decent head coach would have kept us up with the players we brought in January. McBurnie and Moore but heckys last game v qpr suggested he wouldn't keep us up.
Jealous of what just giving my opinion that the last 6-12 months here he had a total nightmare. So was down to the board that January after the summer and with the team/formation selection and other mistakes you can't blame the board and everyone else forever.
Sorry if this has been mentioned already but wasnt it said that Hecky had signed the deal much ealier than it came out but the announcement of him signing new contract had been kept under wraps ............then news of his departure came out.................. i could be wrong bnut am sure i saw that in an interview with hecky after he left for leeds
We still haven't recovered from that January. That board certainly made their (skid) mark on the club. It just hasn't washed out yet, even if we did compete in the Champ Play Offs. I would hope we get some sort of stability now, make ourselves an established Championship club again
Of course we have recovered from selling 3 players in the January window 6 years ago. The summer window when we sold pinnock lindsay and kieffer moore was more damaging than that January, so was the summer window we signed iseka and oulare. The problem is we pay peanuts in comparison to 95% of championship sides so when we were doing well and a agent wispers in a players ear that he can go from 4k to 28k he's obviously going to want to leave
