Really ?. Higgy would have been an interesting choice, although not my choice to be honest. Shaun O'Dismal turned us down as well of course, and he ended up the same way as Terry... he got butchered/sacked at his new club within a year.
Yeah, Sure Higgy said as much in the interviews with Loko. Should be in the sticky at the top of the page
This was yet another important time in the clubs history. I wanted it to work out for Keith Hill, as Im sure we all do for every manager/coach. Even though I couldn't really take him as likeable, that wasn't the reason why we hired him was it, to be nice!. That 0-5 romp at Birmingham we're talking about showed potential, but it only happened rarely that season.
I remember it was a 5.30pm kick off & we watched it before going in town. It was pissing it down & we were pretty poor at the time & I was thinking ‘I’m so glad I’ve not gone there’. Fast forward an hour & we were battering them & the camera panned to Granty & his mates jumping up & down with their shirts off & it looked like the best place on Earth to be!
Ah yes, the famous "we can't sack him cos it's Christmas" season. Was the Blackburn game the one where Wiseman played CB with Stones at Right Back, we gave away two really soft goals in the first half, before Hill finally switched Stones and Wiseman to ironic cheers from the Ponty end? Only time I remember Stones playing Centre Back for Barnsley, and he was immaculate.
That game was peak Keith-ball. I get he upset some with his opinions (fair reflections of where we were).
I think he was a pretty good manager, just acted like a bit of a bellend at times, had some stupid quotes (which managers haven't) and had players sold etc when he was making us into a very good side.
