Probably his last big pay day, he'l go with whoever offers him the most, which is fair enough really.
The problem is their dammed if they do their dammed if they don't. Difficult for the board ,I understand this.
How likely are we to find a good striker in January though? I'd keep him, give us a chance of getting promoted hopefully.
Depends where we are in the league. If we are looking good for a promotion push then we don't sell as a promotion is worth far more than whatever we could receive for Cole in January. If we are still inconsistent then unfortunately like in the past we will take a fee. There is no way at this minute in time if I were Cole would I be signing a new long term contract at Barnsley with other clubs already showing interest. Clubs who will almost certainly offer him a great final pay day contract with a substantial signing on fee.
There is no guarantee keeping him that his form, injury will maintain a promotion push. If he wasn't out of contract in the summer I wouldn't be having this discussion. Money in the bank is real Cole or no Cole promotion isn't certain and to think Cosgrove Watters Marsh Jalo can't step up or that we couldn't recruit a decent striker in january with the money to maintain a good season I also don't think is true.
Because liams deal is up in the summer aswell if he has a good 9months here he could get offered a good deal with a championship club.
Because we have proved over the years how good we are at finding a keeper and how hard it is to find a proven goal scorer. So some sort of swap deal wouldn't be in our interest.
I can see how people would think there's a big chance, highly likely might be fair dos....but 'he will go in January without a doubt' seems a touch strong. Even the Club and the Player couldn't say that at this stage.
