All fur coat and bo knickers for me Used to be Hugh quality and large portions when it was round the corner but since they moved and spent a fortune doing up their current premises they've got ideas well above what their product delivers in my opinion. I don't care about fancy photos on the wall, I want good chips and lots of them at a decent price and for me Shaw's just don't deliver on that. Very small portions compared to other local chippies, a quality that is distinctly average. They're not awful but they're nothing special, they're just standard. And a price that makes me cry. I find that the easiest way to tell a chippy is going to be a bit below average in both quality and quantity is if they've spent a fortune trying to look like a restaurant. Magpie at Whitby, Whitby's in Sheffield/Donny, wetherby whaler and Shaws. All pull the wool over your eyes with the decor to mask what is in actual fact just overpriced average fish and chips. Give me a proper chippy where I feel stuffed after eating them over somewhere where I feel like I've only had a small snack any day of the week.
Keelings is for sale on Racecommon Road - anybody rate it? Never been. I'm Park Road loyal as it meets my 'do they give you loads' test.
Sadly no, it closed down a few years ago due I believe to ill health. Shame really, I was brought up in that area and can remember going to Darn's most Saturdays for a good few years from about 1959. Jim and his son and successor Graham were lovely people who provided good quality food at a fair price.
Keelings is very good and their food is gluten free. My daughter in law has coeliac and she buys from there. Never had an issue. She's gutted that Ian is retiring.
I love fish and chips but I can rarely even finish a normal portion, let alone a large. I used to have to beg the place near me to give me fewer chips. I've normally got a big appetite as well - there's just something about eating it specifically that somehow turns me into my grandma. "Fish and just a scoop of chips".
Yeah get that. I've started lately only having a couple of slices of bread with mine too. Personal growth.
Silly me. I feel guilty now because I recently had a spat with a bloke who had parked on the zig-zags outside Cohen’s on the High Street. I must remember to keep myself updated.
Ocean fish bar,how can you have too large portion !,I'd rather have a bit portion ahem than not enough.
