Too early to sack him. 10 games in and we’re sitting 7th in the league. though he can’t afford too many more like that. Not having a shot on target at home means something in the tactics or line up was wrong. Players need a rocket too imo, plenty of em were too slow and obvious in their passing today.
Ten games is too soon, it’s not like we are losing every week. Also I’m surprised how many people are surprised at the fact he plays possession based football waiting for the opportunity it’s what he was known for at his last club. Don’t get me wrong not saying some of performances are good enough but we shouldn’t be surprised and should give it chance for his style to stick.
I really hate the passing about at the back with little or no idea how to get forward. Some of the worst and most boring football I've ever seen at Oakwell. Even in the second half there was little urgency until the last 10 minutes. Dire.
Slow, possession based, tippy tappy, farting about at the back football will not get you promoted from league one, FACT. If some supporters are happy to accept this then fair dos
I think Blackpool deserve some credit. There game plan was spot on and in the second half when we battered them time after time they put there bodies on the line. The tippy tappy football as some call it was in someways forced on us because of the way Blackpool played.
We lost 1-0. I’m not sure that pointing the finger at the defence makes sense (albeit the mess-up for their penalty was the decisive factor in the end).
The thing I don't get ....... we supposedly have a template of fast flowing, pressing football. Each coach is supposed to stick to the formula? If Collins has been allowed to impose his own style, it is far removed from the template thus far and is turgid, boring, negative and certainly not 'entertaining'. Thus far. But aye, only 10 games.
The prophets of doom really get me annoyed. Ten games in we are 7th in the table and leading goal scorers. 1.6 points per game would probably get us in the playoffs. It took Duff ‘til Christmas to get his team playing the way he wanted. Fans aspirations are far too ambitious. Support your team instead of moaning. The ‘naysayers’ were blackguarding Mads in his first season. Do these moaners think their booing and venting their spleen will make the players play better?
This. They were organised but offered nothing, we just happened to give them something. I don’t like pointless passing but by the same token I think they forced us into it by being organised and having men behind the ball. I think keeping the ball is better than just hoofing it in hope though.
Difference being he was managing in a poor standard of US football that’s got no promotion or relegation and below the MLS.
Agree. It was always going to be a tight game today. 0-0 would have been fair. Blackpool have a decent team and closed up shop after the penalty. People say about Neil not knowing his best 11. To be honest, I don’t know it either. Cotter had to cross everything today - he couldn’t beat his man. Cole was heavily marked. Plus forced changes due to injury. I thought Mael played well and started to look more comfortable. A single win doesn’t promote us, and neither to does a loss relegate us.
I didn't go to the match today, but my son said they'd had shots, just not on target! He also said Collins was yelling at them when they were aimlessly passing it round the back
They put bodies on the line and defended well. But if they play like that in every away game they’ll lose more than they win. Just not our day today.
Our away form is that of a team destined for promotion, whilst our home form is that of a team destined for relegation.
Yup. Bizarre ain’t it. It happens to teams for no reason at all - and the longer it goes on, the more conscious they become of it. I think we’ll settle down in October more - we’ve a good enough squad to do well.
To be fair though we keep the ball for a few simple passes between the defenders and then hoof it. Pointless passes generally end up with a pointless result especially against any half decent team.
