Are the reaction of some after a defeat replicated on other boards? Do you think it could be an age thing?,where an older person can anylize the game and the outcome and a younger person just sees the result and can't wait to attack anything like the managers accent for example.
I think after 90 minutes without many forward passes and no shots on target, they got off lightly with the booing at full time.
I don’t read other boards but given the comments I see on here about Owlstalk etc it seems that it is replicated.
I don't read or contribute to this board as much anymore, especially after a defeat. Some of the overreactions baffle me. We have fans calling for the sacking of a young manager, who currently has us 7th in the table, despite our best midfielder being out and our entire defence from last season being sold and replaced with inexperienced players. I'll accept his croaky voice is a bit annoying like, but come on.
Do you think this is a measured view across the gamut of responses, or are you just focusing on the reactionary responses you see?
I think the most reactionary, negative stuff comes mainly from middle aged men who grew up watching Barnsley largely in the 80s and 90s, so they see us as a Championship club.
To be fair, since we got relegated from the Premier league in 1998 we've only spent 7 seasons below the championship. 7 seasons out of 25 means to even newer generations we are a championship team.
No the tactics are great, the footballs great, the players are great, and Collins is doing a top job. Nothing to worry about.
To be fair I doubt many fans, even the most level headed ones, expected us to lose 4 of our first 6 home games. Whichever way you look at it it’s not good enough for the squad we have.
Thats fair comment but don,t we take into consideration Connell,Cundy and McCarthy for example being out injured. I'll happily take seventh spot at the moment with players to come back into the squad /team. It just comes over a little childish wanting a manager sacked after 10 games and in seventh spot.
I don’t want him sacked but I do have serious doubts about his ability to set us up for L1 football. The difference last season was that Duff knew what was needed at this level. At this time Collins clearly doesn’t.
Its definitely an age thing with most mate. Most of The younger ones not only expect success but demand it. And when it doesnt go to plan want shut of anyone who plays for or manages the club in the first few weeks who don't hit the ground running. Most of us older ones seem to have a little more patience. And I think this is one of those times. If the result had gone our way yesterday. And could have done with a little bit more composure in front of goal. What would the threads have been like. ? And as you say. Attacking him for his voice and accent is puerile.
Give the guy a chance. Odds are it won't work, but he deserves a bit more support than he's getting at the moment from some. Hardly his fault the club keeps taking two steps back for every one forward.
If I want cheering up I visit Owlstalk the other board from what i,m told is a no go area for realism.
Not sure, quite similar I think. It’s the terrible home form that’s the worry. Glad the Bolton game is off.
