What’s crack these days with every tom dick n Harry trying to add more to your bill???? Last night took the mrs for a meal, called for a pre meal drink n bloke asked if I’d like fo follow the payment instructions on the machine, it was 0% 5% then 2 other options, I’d switched off by this stade n pressed 0%…….it wasn’t like it was even table service the cheeky *****!! Then goes for our meal and did somet I’ve never ever done before and put some money on the bill, which did cover the ‘bill’ plus a small tip and walked off, no one asked why I’d not paid the bill while I was grabbing my jacket either, why do they have to try it on and add another 12.5%??? For me a tip is at your discretion
The money doesn’t all go to the staff either new tips legislation coming in next year which will probably result in prices on your bill going up (as from next year all service charge / tips required by law to go to staff)
Well I’d made my mind up last night I wasn’t playing there games but what enforced it more was when the lady next to us asked the waitress to remove the charge and she said ‘I’m not bothered anyhow cos we don’t see any of it anyhow’
Been to Botanist in town a couple of times, great place and good food, but it really annoys me that they automatically add a tip onto the bill without asking. I know it's "the norm" in many places, but it puts me off going again.
Slowly becoming Seppostan, here. It stinks. Mandatory tips shouldn't ever be a thing in a civil society. Pay your ******* workers a ****** working wage!!! Dickheads!!!
I absolutely hate all of these things. A booking fee on top of a ticket price. No, that's the ticket price. A service charge at a pub or restaurant. If you think the prices I'm paying aren't enough to cover your costs then put them up. Don't try to hide them in a service charge you corrupt *****. The "would you like to donate to charity?" Box that comes up on tills at supermarkets these days and even worse when the cashier actually asks you if you'd like to. No, I'll tell you what. Why don't YOU round up my bill and pay it to charity out of your billions of profits instead of me doing it out of my 10 or 11 quid and hour wages. Takeaways who charge more for all their items online and then charge a mandatory service charge as well and a delivery charge too. Companies advertising products to the end user but not including the VAT in the illegal ad.
went to a restaurant in wickersley a few months back, the missus was paying the bill but had to nip 1 o the kids home early so i paid it, got charged an extra default payment made to parties of 6 or more, only way to avoid it was to tell them before ordering that you want it removed from the bill, but they don't tell you about it! the service was diabolical too! wouldn't return for free
I don’t mind adding a small tip provided it’s my decision and not theirs and ONLY if the service has been good
Also agree with all these, but one of the worst for me is flights! Flight to X is £100, but if you want to take a bag and sit next to your mate/partner, it's £180. Unsurprisingly, when I go on holiday, I take some stuff with me and would quite like to sit next to the person I've booked the trip with... Rather they just advertised the actual price that I'm going to end up paying for a normal trip (i.e. with a bag/case!)
We were in Spain last week. The prices there reinforced my view that we in this country are being ripped off big-style.
Fully agree, particularly with Supertykes contribution. The services charges on match tickets, Just Eat, and Ticketmaster being particularly annoying as is being begged to give to charity when trying to pay for your goods --- which no doubt the company in question will get credit for, despite it's customers donating.
Similar thing but delivery charges if there's no alternative ie store pick up then that should be added to the price of the item. I wanted to buy a washer from Currys the price was £279 but no store pick up so I would have to pay £30 so I can Never pay 279 for that washer. I was so annoyed I went looking for a alternative Currys warehouse on ebay the same washer with a small scratch on the front £209 and you guessed free delivery. The next con has already started Matalan charge you 99p for store pick ups madness.
