A run of 3 away games for the reds now, which is just as well as we remain unbeaten away from home. First up, a Cambridge side who have built upon their final day survival last season, and started off reasonably well with 14 points from 9 games. In fact, they'll go above us with a win in Tuesday night. Despite that, the bookies have the hosts as 19/10 outsiders with the reds priced at 11/8 to continue our away run. At the Abbey, Cambridge have dropped 4 points from a possible 15 so far this season. Losing to current 3rd placed side Stevenage and drawing with 6th placed Port Vale. They did take all 3 points in their last 4 league home games last season too, taking their run to just 2 defeats in 9 home games. This will be United's 10th game of the season; their 10th game of last season was a 3-0 defeat to a 10 manned reds side, courtesy of goals from Devante Cole, James Norwood and Robbie Cundy. Our overall record at the Abbey reads 4 wins, 4 draws and 4 defeats, however we have been victorious in our last 2 visit there, albeit over 30 years apart. Despite taking charge of just 8 games this season, referee Tom Parsons has managed to issue 41 yellow and 2 red cards, though a quarter of these were on the opening day of the season, in Crawley's home victory to Bradford. Interestingly, this is only Mr Parsons second league 1 fixture of the season. His first was Wycombe 3-2 Leyton Orient, in which the visitors were reduced to 10 men early in the second half with the scores level at 1-1. He took charge of the reds goalless draw away at Bristol Rovers late last season, and our 1-1 home draw with Port Vale about a year ago. He booked 2 reds players vs Rovers and all 4 of the cards he issued in the Vale game were to Barnsley player's. He also refereed Cambridge's home tie with Port Vale last season (a 2-1 defeat) and their victory at home to Ipswich in the Football League Trophy, where the Tractor Boys were reduced to 10 men very early on. I see this being a tough game, similar to the Northampton fixture a few weeks ago. A tight defensive team, who maybe lack a bit of cutting edge going forward. I'm going for a narrow reds victory, as our away form continues to carry us. I'm going for 0-1 with Cole back on the scoresheet.
2-0 us, Cole & Cosgrove, despite us not getting de 'French kid' Gevigney off quick enough and his second yellow coming 10 minutes after his first leaving us with 10 men for the last half hour. It's in the tea leaves.
Interesting. I always get a bit suspicious when there's a late change of ref - we were originally meant to have Paul Conway (ie Ben Toner) and Parsons is an awful replacement.
I vaguely recall Ben Toner being half decent the last time we had him too. He's one who's name I'll always remember after the shenanigans around him being put in charge of a Blackpool game the day after they'd managed to oust Karl Oyston.
Normally positive pre match but not this time. They’re half decent this season and anyone half decent seems to be finding a way to beat us. A depressing 1-0 defeat. BBS explodes.
Try to keep it sensible. I’m going 19- 2 to the reds with us getting four penalties. It has to start to even up sometime
Have tried to be positive with my predictions this year - even got a couple right. Tonight I see the wheels coming off and a 3-0 win for Cambridge with Digby netting. Euromillions - 2, 8, 16, 17, 37 (21 + 38). BBS to crash at 22:19
