Doesn't reckon much to female pundits commenting on the mens game! Oh, and Joey Barton agrees with him. Dear me!
This has infuriated me. Don’t get me wrong, I do actually think there has been “overkill” in terms of including female presenters. However, the amount of people churning out, “women should stick to women’s football” just fills me with absolute gloom. It’s one step forwards and two steps back. The issue should not be about whether a presenter is a man or a woman - just if they are good enough. I could never stand Mark Lawrensen, and I think Clinton Morrison is woeful. That doesn’t lead me to the conclusion that Men can only comment on men’s football, or black people on black football. It’s just incredible the amount of people churning out this utter rubbish. I just despair about the people in this country sometimes. Two of the best sports presenters in this country in my opinion are female - Claire Balding and Gabby Yorath. I think you’d have to go a long way to find someone with better tactical knowledge than Emma Hayes. I get that not all female presenters are brilliant - but we have had the previous 40 to 50 years of not all male presenters being brilliant. Let’s not bring it down to another gender battle. It’s so tedious.
Weirdly it’s only the England games he doesn’t like them commentating on, he goes on to say that he thinks a lot of the female commentators are better than men, surely if you’re knowledgeable to commentate on the premiership then same goes for England games no matter what gender you are…tho he did also say that he joined in a ladies game and they were fantastic.
As for Joey Barton, I see he dropped Luke Thomas from the squad for the match. So not content with throwing a player under the bus he’s now destroying someone with known mental health issues. The man should be unemployable.
I have to turn the TV off , every time Alex Scott appears. She is seen as a golden girl on TV as see ticks all the boxes. Uses all the football buzz words when she speaks without any knowledge or substance behind them. How on earth she is seen as a top pundit amazes me. A lot of my mates are exactly the same , will not watch a match when she is involved .
I’m not a fan either tbh. But there can’t be anything worse than Jamie Carragher. I also can’t stand the Monday night pre match gadget nonsense. It’s so OTT.
Give me Alex Scott, Sue Smith, Courtney Sweetman-Kirk any day of the week over clowns like Merson. Merson hasn't a clue who the players are, can't pronounce any of them forrin names and just shouts over everyone. Le Tissier and Thompson were the same. It's actually nice to hear analysis for a change instead of HE'S HIT THE BEANS.
I suspect his comments have been 'enhanced' a bit, I've only read a bit, but in the bit I did read he definitely said there are some really good female football presenters, it was the ones commentating on what they would do in an international match situation, when they had never experienced that level of play. Now in that situation it also applies to some lesser experienced blokes, but he certainly didn't come across as someone who is a a rabid sexist and he after all is entitled to his opinion.

I think you’d have to go a long way to find someone with better tactical knowledge than Emma Hayes. Totally with you on two, but Claire Balding? I always thought she got where she is because her persona fitted the BBC image, just can't take to her at all, but hey, opinions eh?
Absolutely he is entitled to his opinion. And yes it’s been stirred up by the press. But he knows how the press works, and this is majorly unhelpful - all that happens is the neanderthals come out of the woodwork slating women, women in football, women’s football etc. It just feels like the nation is becoming more and more bigoted.
I just wanna see pundits with personality- michah richards, robbie savage, ally mccoist Alex Scott, Jermaine Jenas just read from a script
Hoddle is another. "He's put some wazz on the shot". Load of crap, he's curled it, bent it, made it swerve so say that.
Alan Pardew was on the other night as - there was a goalmouth incident that he just couldn’t describe. At one point one of the other guys said “What’s happening Alan?”. His response was “I’m not a good commentator”. That’s what you’ve been hired for.
I find a lot of the female pundits refreshing. I'm such of hearing the same trite comments from the same dull pundits. Don't get me wrong, of the ladies are going to trot out the same stuff they're going to get boring too, but so far, aside from one or two exceptions, that hasn't been the case.
Can't remember who it was (probably Motson) but someone once said that the key to good commentary is to describe what you're seeing first of all in simple terms and offer analysis/critique once you've done that.
