Yes, there is that to consider. As others have eluded to, he thinks he’s better than he actually is, so can’t see him wanting to sign another contract. Even if he did, do we want him for another 2-3 yrs producing mediocre performances on the whole??
You missed the bit at the end of my post then? I clearly didn't say he never has an impact, but it is definitely more often than not.
He was outstanding in our good run last season when we were thumping Portsmouth, Plymouth, Derby etc. Tactics this season seem to be getting most of our players a lot of stick, only Cole and Roberts that haven't had it in the neck at some point yet we're third in the league because of these players quality's.
I'd honestly not use the word outstanding for him at any point in his BFC career. We all see things differently though.
Fair point mate and that's the beauty of football how we all see things differently. Even though we're third I honestly don't think Collins has got us playing anywhere near what we are capable of on a consistent basis.
We can agree on that. Definitely a work in progress, we'll be flying come February, hopefully not too far behind the top 2 like last season.
interesting stats on Herbie if that sorta thing is your bag https://footystats.org/players/england/herbie-kane
I'm with you. There's just so much uninformed tripe written on here about Kane - often by a mixture of folk who won't have a critical word said about anyone else, even when valid, and/or blow smoke up the backsides of bang average performers. I haven't posted much about games/players on here recently as the prevailing view imho is often way off kilter with what I and people I talk to see when at games. I try to go to every/nearly every game and be objective but a lot of the opinions on here seem preset and trotted out regardless. MdG is current 'poster boy' and yes, he's improving and I'm happy for that and for him but the blind praise issued on here for him at Exeter, for example, was mind-bogglingly OTT. His defending on the two occasions that it mattered was awful and nearly cost us 2 or all 3 points! Both times when Exeter hit the post he was a major concern - firstly backing off and then turning his back on the lad who's shot hit the post and then at the end completely abandoning his man at a corner and letting their lad have a free header which again fortunately hit the post. Those aren't me having a go at MdG for nothing - they are factual events - but don't let a fact get in the way of a BBS bandwagon. Fwiw imho Kane was one of our top three performers last season and is arguably, with Williams, our most consistently good outfield player this season now that Cole's performances have dipped recently. What does matter is that two pretty decent coaches in Duff and Collins both see things the same and almost every opposition fan I've spoken to has picked out Kane as our most influential player. At Northampton I even bumped into Marc Richards who's a coach there after the game and he commented on how Kane stood out as the player that had been the main thorn in their side throughout.
His passing stats are extremely impressive. A lot of the good things we do come through Herbie Kane. If we'd paid £300k for him, I'd be more than satisfied. But for a million quid, you have every right to expect a midfielder with much to his game. Either a lot more pace and the ability to take players on, or 8-10 goals a season like yesterday's, a la Adam Phillips.
