I heard a rumour that the whole fanatics debacle this season was all planned and it's actually our own take on Charlie and the chocolate factory. 5 lucky fans who ordered shirts have received them granting them entry to the Horsham match where they'll be greeted by Khaled in a top hate and purple trousers
You love to take digs at anyone who points out anything negative don't you. How many fans have you took pot shots at today?
I don’t think you needed the word almost. I’m guessing if only 3000 or so decide to sit in the exposed seats not protected by a roof if it’s wet and windy they won’t open the upper. So if you gamble on it opening and it doesn’t you are either down by the corner flag or not going
Whilst I dont agree with the decision to change the game to a Friday night. 3rd round v Barrrow jan 2022. Attendance: 4755 (1,262 Barrow) 2nd round v Crewe nov 2022 Attendance 3900 + 3rd round this year. v Derby away 11k+ The fa cup has lost its appeal. Going the same way as the League cup sadly till the quarter finals.
I feel really sorry for Horsham. A great tie for them, and what should be a great occasion for their club is turning into a shambles.
Personally, I'd be attempting to tempt more of our fan base to come to the game, rather than looking at recent attendances for similar matches and only opening up stands that can cope with those low figures. But then I have ideas how to engage our fan base and move us forward, where as those running our club are f***ing w***.
The idea of the Club giving up ‘home advantage’ and playing the game in Horsham has a lot of appeal; both from their perspective obviously but also from ours. I would have certainly gone to the game (if I could get a ticket). I was quite keen to go to the game at Oakwell, and I still will if they open up other parts of the ground. But the idea of sitting out in the elements of the East Stand Lower certainly lacks appeal. Poor show all round from the Club. Most unusual!
Only making a point re the arguments put forward in the thread. And personally would prefer to open the south stand. And I'll stand corrected wasn't it open for the Barrow and crewe games. But still didn't pull em in with reduced prices. Tbh jay I'm not sure owt works re cup attendances. Low prices don't. And I think that's down to its loss of appeal. That started many yrs ago. When the Greed league super clubs saw it as an inferior competition to european competitions. It's not just a Barnsley thing. Take the Derby game. 11k and the promise of a chance of a prem league club in the next round hadn't much appeal. The non league clubs will always see it as their day to shine so to speak. Certainly would like to know your ideas.? Prices certainly dont work. Not even sure free would make much difference. Free tickets and lower prices haven't exactly attracted many numbers in the past. I find that alarming as I remember other clubs where it certainly worked. Eg Charlton.
Thought we might have got a reasonable crowd on the Saturday with us going decently and against a team we've never played and are unlikely to play much again. They would probably have brought a decent four figure number on their big day out. It's certainly a more attractive tie than Crewe and the Barrow game was amidst the total despair and disillusionment of the death by PE Teachers season.
Let's go away to them next summer for a pre season friendly to give them a chance to make back some of the cash we've lost them.
Playing on Friday will reduce the crowd a fair bit. The Crewe game was last season under Duff though wasn’t it? ‘We’ haven’t lost them anything in all fairness but I agree with the sentiment of the friendly. Perhaps alternatively the club could gift them our half of the gate for this tie. Won’t be much.
No, we need revenue as well choose how little. Why not the FA compensate them, it’s not like they don’t have the money
All gate money goes to FA now ,doesn't work like it used to do. Every club gets so much from FA for progressing to the next round. So they will already have been paid by the FA for getting this far.
There is prize money for each round you progress but you aren’t correct that the FA takes all the gate - this is the rule book for this year’s fa cup; gate receipts are covered (including what you are allowed to deduct etc) from page 40-46 ish - but essentially the net gate is split evenly between the clubs unless it’s a game between a league and non-league club, in which case the split is 55/45 in the non-league club’s favour: https://www.thefa.com/-/media/thefa...rules-of-the-fa-challenge-cup-202324docx.ashx Given the cost of putting the game on, ref fees, staffing costs for stewards and so on; and having given them their travel allowance etc, I doubt there’ll be much left ‘net’ - our 45% would amount to a lot less than the goodwill and positive response to us gifting it to Horsham - with a public announcement as to why and stating we did not agree with playing Friday - would give. A bit of positive publicity and showing a bit of solidarity might even improve ticket sales for future games from those currently disillusioned - improving the public image certainly wouldn’t hurt.
For any fans who have never sat in the ESL I can say from experience that the rain very easily gets under that roof. I’ve been sitting near the halfway line on row M for years and if the wind is blowing from the west it’s as if you are sitting out in the open. Row M is quite near the back as well so, if we are all crammed into the ESL for this match, let’s pray for a dry night
