For us older ones, it was great to see a legend from those glory years speak so eloquently pre-match. Accent wise it could have been Roy Hodgson, but Ian Evans really brought it all back to me the way he spoke about Hunter, Macca, Banger, Glavin. Really well spoken and obviously very fond of his time here. For a short while I was back in 1981. Nice one Ian.
He also chose to mention the “ iconic “ West Stand A truly great player and iconic in his own right !
I would go as far to say that those 2 ,Evans and Macca were the best pairing centre backs playing together in my 50 ish years of watching BFC.
I wish I could have heard what he was saying but the acoustics of the stands made it impossible for me to make out more than the odd word. Great to see him there though, and nice that they have shifted these interviews to the ESL side where there are more people to enjoy it.
Easily the best pair. Mick coming up and destined for international stardom and Ian at the other end of an illustrious career but still a top class player. Glorious time to be following the Reds
It won’t be any better though. There are bits on the Recap video of interviews but it’s still not clear
That’s a shame, cos he spoke well about the club. Where were you sitting, cos it was clear as day in the Ponty?
ESL half way which is as close as you can get! My hearing isn’t great though so all I got was the sound of their voices booming around the stand with no clarity unfortunately.
How can we enjoy when we can't hear? Where I sit on ESL back row trying to make out what is said is extremely hard work.
Glad it's not just me then I suppose if you have perfect hearing then it's ok but that ship sailed a long time ago for me. I have trouble hearing all of the announcements made, especially the shouted ones! And before anybody asks, YES I do have hearing aids but do not wear them all the time. I've tried them at matches in the past and all that happens there is that they just amplify the booming noise. The words are still not clear. Maybe it's the Oakwell tannoy system that needs an upgrade - no chance of that when they can't even provide a decent information screen - or maybe it is the shape of the stands that bounce the sound around. I don't know which it is. I'm just resigned to hardly hearing a single word spoken
I also sit on the back row of the ESL, top of Gangway 1. It's not my hearing that's the problem, it's the broken speaker above our heads. I would have loved to hear what Ian had to say.
Very classy centre half was Ian.Macca was no nonsense but Evan's was the brains and he's still got a fine head of hair all be it a little grayer as others said brilliant to see and hear from him great time to be a red the early 80s.
Certainly was. I reckon if there'd been playoffs in 1982, we'd have won them. There wasn't the gulf in class that there is now and I believe we'd have stayed in the first division for a good few seasons.
The away following was amazing ,always packed and vocal. TBF the team gave us something to sing about. Went to most home and away then ,never forget the Liverpool game in the cup away , record attendance had to be close to 18 thousand if I remember.
