Much as I'm delighted to see the Eagles at 7-1, they've not really hit their stride so far, other than for odd flashes in games. We're the NFL equivalent of George Graham's Arsenal sides, grinding out 1-0 wins without playing well. Hopefully that all ends when Grudge Match #1 kicks off this weekend. Nothing pisses me off more in NFL than losing to the Cowboys. Weirdly, the Chiefs seem to be doing the same kind of thing. Losing to the Broncos was a shocker, in particular. No team is showing any particular consistency so far, so it's a season where someone could piece together a bit of consistency and come charging through the pack. Having momentum to take into the play-offs is key, and there's still time for pretty much any team to build that.
I was on a family holiday in Florida in Oct 1981 and saw a Monday Night game on TV between the Eagles and the Falcons. I picked the Eagles as the team I wanted to win on the basis that it was a better bird (logic of a 7yo) and watched them win a game that I was trying to figure out the rules of. Over the next few days, my parents found me a few bits of merchandise, and they've been my team ever since. When Channel 4 started showing NFL in 1984 I'd tune in with frustration that the Eagles were never featured for more than a few seconds each week, but I didn't opt to switch to one of the more popular teams of that time. Weirdly, due to my interest in football starting with Glen Hoddle's Spurs team and then switching to Liverpool for a bit, this means that I've been an Eagles fan for longer than I've officially been a Barnsley fan. Here's 7yo me at Disney World on that holiday...
As stated earlier, my team are the Cincinatti Bengals as tigers are my favourite animals. Grrrrrrrrr.
Yeah but to be honest, who keeps saying the America's team thing ?. It's the media more than the fans!. We have a billionaire owner Jerry Jones, and I wish he'd send a few quid to us here at Burnsley Fc lol.
Hey Boss Hogg lol. For me it was just a silly thing really, I like Western films and I went with the 'Cowboys' team name.
Hey Sheriff, it's a big one isn't it... Dallas & Philadelphia. We're surely getting into the Play offs again, but sadly we do tend to choke when it matters. I as a Dallas fan, I know I have to admit that.
Remember the great game last season, where we clipped the wings of the Eagles lol. But sadly for whatever reason though, I/we can't post Nfl highlights on here.
How did Green Bay end up with such a renowned football team? I'll be honest I'd have never heard of the place if it wasn't for the team. Had absolutely no idea where it was until I checked on Wikipedia. Looking at the population, it's only around the size of Barnsley. Granted, there are probably no other teams for miles around, but still. Having said that, the Georgia Bulldogs college football stadium in Athens GA has a capacity which can pretty much hold the entire population of the city, which is a bit nuts.
Someone has just posted this on an Eagles FB page. I've not seen it before and I admit to the fact it made me laugh quite a lot!
Wow, that was an unbearable end to the game. Eagles seemed determine to throw the win away, but somehow managed to hang on at the death. Ugly win, but I'll take it.
I always listen to one of our fans who does live commentary on our matches, and he's absolutely fuming right now lol. He's still swearing like mad at those 'f*ing awful officials' and their decisions tonight. I know he's biased as a Dallas fan (like I am), but is he right ?.
Not sure why he'd be annoyed. The decisions favoured Dallas if anything (e.g. 4th down conversion that looked short, followed by an unnecessary roughness penalty against the Eagles when it should have been the Dallas TE who got it for the 1st offence). Cowboys touchdown catch looked down to me too, but was given. Could be natural bias at play on both parts, but I'd say we got the worst of it in terms of the officials.
