That was Brian Clough. He went to the ground p1ssed up and ordered the pitch to be watered sent the ground staff home. Then he fell asleep. They had to explain to the F.A why the pitch was waterlogged when they hadn't had any rain.
I'm pretty sure that wasn't a regular occurrence. I lived in Derby in 1983 (saw us win 2-0 with Glav notching) but went to a few games including a cup game against Plymouth who won thanks to a goal direct from a corner with Peter Shilton in goal. The game was played like keepy up cos if it landed on the pitch, they needed shovels to get it out again....
