Chester at home under Wilson. Had we lost six or seven nill to a team training twice a week, we couldn't have had complaints about being unlucky. That we got a 0-0 draw was a miracle.

I think we need to hold the front page here. We have a replay that may change things. The jobs not done yet.

Would that have been premier league Oldham at the time while we were scrambling around the bottom of Div 1 under Vivian?.
We played reasonably well as I recall but poor finishing and Andy Ritchie scoring a screamer from 25 yards is what put us out, so I think your example is b@ll@cks personally.....no offence like ; -)..........sithi.

Hard question to answer for us old men. There have been a few disasters along the way, and to me, after 65 years of following the Reds, the other night hardly made the Richter Scale. Rhyl, Marine and Enfield took some swallowing, although we did stuff Enfield in the replay at White Hart lane. In more recent times, we've lost Cup games against Morecambe and Barrow. The other night was one to forget, sure, but with a minimum of luck we would have won by several goals. The real worry to me is our general home form.

I want to say Bromsgrove, but we won. So I’d have to say Altrincham or Horsham. I’m sure there have been worse further back, but I only go back to around 87

Altrincham for me. The result, the performance, the open terrace, the heavy rain all day (my waterproof coat proved to be anything but, when I got back to the car and took it off I realised my sweatshirt and t-shirt underneath were also sodden), the fact we had likkle Lee as manager with his soundbites and nonsense.

    All in all, sh1t3.

Just had a look at our line-up for the Bromsgrove game. It includes two full internationals, and plenty of players who played in the promotion side or in the Premier League for us. Absolutely outrageous that they came so close to losing to a team of part-timers. Our sub was Andy Liddell, also no slouch.

That team would probably walk this division (provided they didn't play like they did at Bromsgrove.)

They'd be challenging for top 6 in the division above. Quality throughout that side. Not entirely sure what went wrong at Bromsgrove. Luckily we turned it round and Birmingham lost 2-1 at home to Kidderminster so everyone forgot about our pathetic efforts.

The correct answer is still Altrincham. At least we scored 3 goals the other night, we could have played for a month and never scored in the 2015 match. And the performance…. deary me!

The most significant outcome from that match was the form of Danny Wilson. He was player coach and his performances prior to, and including that game, had been abysmal. He came trying to be a Glen Hoddle type player which was never his game. After the Bromsgrove game he knuckled down to being the proper Danny Wilson tigerish midfielder, winning the ball, organising, and passing the ball to the more creative player

Wilson got dogs abuse in that game, worst I ever heard dished out to one of our own players.
Another turning point in that season was the Masterstroke of swapping a busted flush in Biggins for Andy Payton, his goals played a massive part in us staying up...........sithi.

Indeed. Absolutely criminal! But that side was the start of the revolution which eventually took us to the Premier League.

Also a huge lesson there in the virtues of patience and a settled squad!

Agree. The dogs abuse he got that game was up there with the worst I've come across. Won player of the year. The next season. 94/95.

Wasn't that the game when a tv was "accidently dropped"

Don't get me wrong that side contained some cracking players but was going nowhere under Machin and later Vivian. The following season under Wilson we had no money, no new players and half the ground shut but under a Wilsons influence on and off the pitch those players seem to blossom and finished 6th, any other season we would have made the playoffs but only 1 team went up automatically, just our bleeding luck............sithi.
