I’m not against them having a protest at all mate, I’m just against the timing. It’s almost certain that someone will disrespect the armistice events, there’ll be plenty of extremists there for sure. The people who died in the two world wars made the ultimate sacrifice and helped to give us the life we have now. I just don’t think it’s right to allow this protest to go ahead on the same day. I will admit that I didn’t know it was timed to start at 12.45. Still concerns me what could happen though….
A think the guys a bit of a knob tbh but what gives protesters the right to ruin memorials of our fallen soldiers? It’s not there fault that our current government are openly supporting a nation murdering innocent Children, the police will do absolutely naff all either, there more interested in stopping veterans waving there British flags on the streets of London
The march on Saturday is not - and never was - going to or past the Cenotaph. The route goes from Hyde Park to the US Embassy - the Cenotaph is nearly 1 mile away from the nearest point.
Obviously no-one should do anything on Saturday as its Remembrance Day. So can we all not - go to football, go shopping, go to the pub, go to the cinema, take the dog for a walk etc etc. Stop for the 2 minutes silence at 11.00 and then proceed to spend the rest of the day in quiet reflection remembering the fallen from all conflicts. Its what we do right ? FFS, the march is not on at 11.00, its in the afternoon. The march is pretty much in keeping with the day that's in it as it is anti-war as far as I can tell. The march is nowhere near the cenotaph, but I see the "Football Lads" are organising to protect that so no worries there.. Presumably foregoing their own day at the match twatting each other to do so. A whole load of people seem to be falling for this right wing led rhetoric. Falling for the divisive ******** conjured up by people who actually don't give a crap about you. I honestly despair. Also a good thread to ask when wearing a poppy became compulsory for everyone in the public eye. Seemed to be voluntary when I was a lad in the UK.
I don't wear a poppy. I don't want to donate to a charity that has over £300m in assets and spends more running the poppy appeal than it spends on donations, legacies and events.
Never ceases to amaze why anyone with an ounce of gumption don’t see or refuse to see that the right- wing have hijacked Remembrance/ Armistice days and any cause concerning war veterans. Also the irony of them claiming our war heroes fought against anything other than want they (the right) stand for. If you choose to wear a poppy, wear it with pride. Those that are able to and wish to partake in silence on Armistice day and Remembrance Sunday, please do. Fek the right, fek the Tories and Cruella Braverman. Respect comes from all
Ye.Braverman will have pictures of Churchill on our screens soon and make statements about protecting our freedoms from "Them" while Vera Lynne sings White Cliffs of Dover over the sounds of Spitfires revving into action...and some people will swallow it in a jingoistic ferver and call to deport everyone who attends the march. meanwhile the bombing goes on. Israel should call a halt and give a deadline for the hostages to be freed. this period should be used to get aid to much needed areas.
Sir Nicolas Soames - the former Tory MP and grandson of Winston Churchill - was interviewed this morning supporting the right to march.
Way I see it is , they have every right to protest for peace in Palestine, what I don't get is why Armistice day? They have had and will have, plenty of opportunity to protest at any other time. Could be for extra publicity, but will in all likelihood attract whatever passes for the NF these days, causing mass problems and distress and upset for veterans who only wish to pay respect ( in peace) to their fallen comrades, surely out of respect for the vets they could have postponed it.
Armistice Day with the wreaths on the Cenotaph and parades, etc. is on Sunday. The next march is taking place on Saturday - almost two hours after the 2 minutes silence - and goes nowhere near the Cenotaph. This is the latest in a series of marches that have been taking place over the last month in several cities across the UK - and indeed across Europe - since Israel decided that committing war crimes was an appropriate response to a terrorist attack.
March scheduled to take place the day before Remembrance Sunday. Falling on 11/11, but scheduled to start nearly two hours after the two minutes silence. Which goes nowhere near the cenotaph. Designed it appears to avoid any clash with any remembrance event. Yet The Scum, The Daily Heil are stirring the pot and people like Stephen Yaxley-Lennon are frothing at the mouth. Protest marches for other issues have taken place on 11 November and were never an issue; as they didn’t stop anyone observing silences and paying respects. What, pray tell, is the difference this time?
I just know a lot of the veterans ( many disabled) take remembrance weekend very seriously and many will be travelling all over the weekend for let's face it could be their last time and all this will be causing them concern. Its one weekend, do you seriously think that missing one weekend protest will make a difference to the length of this conflict? Everybody knows the outrage they feel ( and rightly so) I just think it will all go wrong probably for everybody!
seriously mate are you comparing a disrupted family meal to veterans wanting to pay their respects to the mates and comrades they have lost over the years, so you would actually have the freedom to go for a meal. Have you seen the tears and anguish on the faces as they parade? I used to live next door to a sailor from WW11 he would have told you.
I assume that you don't know that the British tricked the Palestinians into fighting for us against the Central powers in WW1 then treated them like **** for the next 100 years?
Braverman's game is throwing red meat to those she hopes will elect her Tory leader after the next election. She doesn't appear to care if she is thrown out of Sunak's government on the way. But he is too weak to sack her.
