Maybe something for the club to look at mirroring, looks a great idea and it doesn't have to be as big as large as the one they have.

Basically It will be built using repurposed shipping containers around a central plaza and main stage area, with an initial lifespan of three years. Idea is that it will also be open throughout the week as a social venue.

Far cheaper than trying to build summat out of bricks n mortar, especially if some sponsorship could be worked out to try and cover some of the cost.

Link about it on their site.

Reckon a scaled-down version could work at Oakwell. Ten a penny these shipping containers

St. James' Park is in the middle of the City. Nobody is going to trek all the way over to Oakwell in the middle of the week for something like that, no matter how good the facilities are.

Just not comparable situations at all, for this reason, the number of fans, population of the area, budget of the club etc.

I actually thought that the Fanzone before the Bolton game had a bit of a Phoenix Nights feel to it!

Was half expecting to see "Sammy Snake" put in an appearance.

Theres still significant cost for a maybe 30 days a season tops. Think if we were in the Town centre it might be a different story like.
Would love to see something more permanent and all year round though.

The Tranmere fanzone looks great. They've had a £1m injection from a micro brewery which will also be on site.

Something like that would be good on a matchday. If it was open every day I suspect other places would shut due to losing business.

No body bothered about a fans zone ,why the big fuss about it ,same with half time entertainment,Barnsley fans like to arrive at 2.50 and go home after game

And yet some games there have been 1000+ people in the fan zone. It's just not very welcoming when the weather is poor.

With some minor changes and organisation we have the space in the east stand lower tier to create a fantastic fan zone and it comes with existing protection from the weather! It doesn’t take a rocket scientist or for that matter a great deal of expenditure to expand on the current space within the stand!

He probably hasn’t. I imagine the same applies to the person he was replying to.

I think both posters have a point. A lot of folk aren’t bothered by one and will get there at 2.50pm. But there are others who would like it.

The big question is whether the folk that would go is enough to make it work. I’d say there would be if it was worth going. (Ie some decent beer/cider and not just standard lager, bitter and cider; good coffee; and good quality food).

I can’t see it being used all week though unless it was inside.
