Best part of Leeds is LS6 & LS12, IMO. Headingley, Meanwood, Far Headingley, West Park, Adel & Moor Allerton. All have great green space, independent shops / bars & great transport. Gipton is definitely one of the worst, as is close by Richmond Hill & most of the west side of Leeds.

That was tragic. The lass I walk dogs for, who lives in West Park / Lawnswood has a kid who is 16 who played in the same team as the killer. Posh area round there.

That said, I went to Holgate from 76 to 81 & a few kids carried knives in their boots back then. Teachers did not give a **** about beatings. There were no stabbings though in my time.

I love living here. I’ve been here over 17 years and never seen any trouble and have always felt really safe here which I can’t say I did back home (then again I am from Grimey).

Lived in Leeds for years and loved it there.

it’s not places that are bad it’s the people.

I was at Holgate from 75 to 80 and never got that vibe about knives. Not disputing your claim but find it really hard to believe if true. Like most secondary schools there were a few rucks but nothing too major. Was a bit intimidating as a new first year though I remember….

Two kids in my year carried knives. One had the surname "Bent", his tag line was "Bent by name & nature". He was mentally not in a good place. Other was a real hard *******, who I won't name, but I believe is a taxi driver in town. Initials are AS. He was the "**** of the school" he beat me up loads of times, but I finally floored him on the day we graduated. Broke his nose. My Dad, now in a care home, was a pro wrestler & set me up to **** him over. Not proud of it, but he had it coming. Little did he expect it to be the kid with the heart problem.

Not a man of violence, but he had it coming.

Bullies deserve their comeuppance so for me you were in order mate. Can’t for the life in me think of a name with initials AS but that’s no surprise as I struggle with names of lads from my own school year these days lol.

I briefly lived in Gipton, albeit on the edge rather than in one of the estates and never had/saw any issues. I was there for about 9 months.

Moved for a couple of years to Seacroft and saw a bit more drama.

Then moved to Cross Gates which was decent. Like a little town, similar in size to Wombwell. Always blew my mind that I couldn't get a train from Barnsley to anywhere notable without changing, but from Cross Gates, I could get to Scarborough, Cleethorpes and I think Blackpool without changing trains.

I lived for a year on St Margaret's Road and 2 years on Horton Grange Road (94-97) and we tended to walk down towards the Uni rather than up towards the places in Lidget Green. My favourites at the time were Shabina on Great Horton Road (now gone), Ithfaq (where Listerhills Road turn into Legrams Lane, also gone) but good see to see The Kashmir and Karachi are still there.

All the pubs have gone too. The Peel has been bulldozed, as has The Willowfield. The Shearbridge looks like it's a Nando's or something. Delius has gone, as has the one on the end of Laisteridge Lane. Where the hell do the students drink? Do they even drink at all?

Why are all places with “Belle” in the title, the exact opposite?. Belle Isle, Leeds; Belle Vue, Manchester. Awful places.

We used to drive over from Harrogate area to have a meal at The Kashmir back in the early 90s. Proper basic looking interior, school type tables and chairs, but the food was incredible. Wasn't there a chapel of rest or funeral home next door?

I lived in Headingley for a year in the mid 90s, near a pub called The Boston Bar (IIRC). Played pool with Gaynor Faye in there one night. Had a great time, some good memories.

Did you ever visit Lundwood in the 70s!! Took your life in your hands going there - and I say that, coming from Grimey.

I grew up on Athersley North during the 60's/70's. We flitted in about 1972 and glad we did. There were some serious sh!thouses living there who'd rather have a go than look at you! Proper rough.
