Throughout my working life I have never wanted anyone to lose their livelihood no matter how wronged I felt by them ( there’s been a good few), however my initial reaction on this is heads should roll ! This isn’t a minimum wage admin lad/lass/other in an old office under the Ponty’s fault, this is someone who should know the basics and not make such an obvious error. Is it club secretary? No idea but this makes The Don Of Rowing, Gerry Whewall(or whatever he was called), Spink’s etc, them that couldn’t register McBurnie etc look like Alan Sugar, Bill Gates etc. Clubs an embarrassment
Whilst i agree about the individual involved. Clearly the processes are wrong. We are the second example of this in the last 120 years so it’s something that you cannot just brush away. it points to the general malaise enveloping Oakwell. A poorly managed club gradually declining. The ground is a metaphor for the soul of the club. A kind of football Dorian Gray. Still a great chance to look closely at the position of a completely incompetent out of their depth CE.
Of course it is. It genuinely is. I wonder how much that person is getting paid? I've worked 12 hour days, every single day, week day and weekend for as long as I can remember. My flat is 14 degrees Celsius and I can't afford to put the heating on. That's how I live. I wouldn't have made this mistake. There is no way I would have made this mistake, not in a million years. You both know me, you know I'm not reactionary and anti-BFC. This is not OK. It's not OK to employ incompetent people like this.
It's absolutely not the first time it has happened in 120 years. Liverpool were fined £200,000 in 2019 for fielding an ineligible player in the League Cup.
Unfortunately this. I'm sure it wasn't done on purpose , but that's literally the point. The one silver lining is that Horsham benefit.
It's always happened To quote Mr Bennett from Pride and Prejudice “For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?
Ignoring the ins and outs of the ****-up it's an odd rule isn't it? Are the FA effectively treating the tie as 1 fixture. So if you are suspended or injured for the first game you can't play in the replay as you weren't available? Can't see the logic - are they really saying teams will game the system by recalling players from loans specifically to win a cup tie? By definition most players on loan are out of favour at parent clubs. Can't see why the rule is there tbh, albeit it clearly is and we have messed up....
The club has referred previously I believe it would be Club Secretary. Seem to remember Michael duff mentioning in an interview that he was waiting on advice from that person RE interpretation of whether red cards applied to cup matches. Either way you slice it, there's been a number of failings for it to ever get that far - can't be pinned on one person but Collins is a coach, not a rules/regulations expert. I think he's entitled to rely on office staff to tell him whether a player is/isn't eligible based on red cards, registrations, visas and work permits etc. Nobody should lose their job but I think we have to recognise that errors have been made and safeguards put in place to avoid recurrence.
I don’t think it applies to injury or suspension, it's that his registration at the time of the first tie was held by York not us. As you say, I can't see the point of such a rule.
I don't believe we've employed incompetent people. I think we may have employed inexperienced people, or we've got competent people doing more than they should be, or simply considering it's a relative edge case that it's just been spotted. I don't think when people make mistakes they should be sacked & I don't think it's right to call people incompetent without any context or knowledge of what's actually happened.
the only other team expelled in a similar fashion for the same issue was Bury in 2006. The league cup is a different competition to the FA Cup. clubs have been expelled for other reasons in other competitions. Here all day for life hacks.
We'll be selling off whoever made the co c k up and retaining an interest in their future. It's how the club is run. They'd transfer ticket office staff if they could to make a profit.
The **** up is the same regardless of if it's either cup or league, we're not the second team to field an ineligible player in 120 years, the outcome isn't relevant.
No. However i did feel that it was a failing of BFCs governance, systems and processes. Maybe like the multiple breaches we have yet to face from the EFL charges levelled in July.
I think we're talking about two different things. The CEO manages and takes responsibility of the overall operations of a company. This company, Barnsley FC, play football matches. They have multiple revenue streams, but they're all based on the football matches played by the first team. There's dozens of things to organize in order to play these games from coaching players, so we're competitive and can attract paying customers, to crowd safety. One area that needs attention is to ensure we abide by the laws of the competition in which we're competing. I don't believe we've given anyone that role. I'm not talking about some overworked young kid being incompetent, I'm talking about the CEO. We've just been kicked out of the FA Cup. The CEO is demonstrably incompetent and I 100% believe he should be sacked.
Not sure how it's possible. Thought football at this level at least would have some sort of system in place. Rugby League is a tiny sport in comparison to football but this would not of been possible. From SL down to u6s and in Australia too. in rugby league they all use an online system called game day. Teams must be entered online prior to the game. If a player is ineligible for any reason they arnt selectable in your list of players. so you know instantly a player isn't available. surly football isn't still using a paper system
Given the considerable sums involved here, someone could make a killing writing an IsMyPlayerAvailable? app. Add in all the relevant rules and get it to look at the fixtures and loan data online. Millionaire! But in the meantime Barnsley, get someone to check the teamsheet.
