Can't say I've seen loads of championship football over the last two seasons but last season we were in there I think them two would get in most teams ,opinions eh. If middlesbrough have two better than Robert's they are very fortunate, only downside to him is his distribution with the modern football obsession with keeper's needing to pass it better than Pele might be the problem. A fit Connell is a championship class midfielder simple as that.

I'm optimistic for one reason they're in my opinion our best two player's.

I agree not much point making them runs if you know the balls not coming the ones that will benefit the most will be the fullbacks. I hate to be so negative about one player but how we are 6th with Russell playing regularly is a minor miracle, only time will tell but I feel Luca will make a big difference.

The next time man city are on TV, just watch how many runs Haaland makes and how many times he doesn't get the ball.

But it does come often enough to make him keep making them runs.

The thing with teams like man city, their central striker may make runs and not receive the ball but those runs create space and drag defenders which allow the attacking midfielders to find space to receive the ball and carry on the attack.

I get that, but my point is that if you don't make the run, it doesn't matter how good the ball is or isn't, there's nobody there to take the pass anyway. If a player thinks there's no point running because the ball won't come anyway, it's time for him to get a proper job.

I've never been a professional footballer but if I was and played in the same team as Jon Russell I wouldn't make a run any further than 3 yards away because the balls not coming. He might be ok with quick mobile midfielders either side of him but that's not what we have

A Period of Transition is the ninth studio album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, released in 1977. It was his first album in two-and-a-half years. At the time of its release it was received with some disappointment by critics and fans: "Most were hoping for a work of primeval vocal aggression that would challenge the emerging élite of Morrison pretenders, whose ranks included Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Phil Lynott, Graham Parker and Elvis Costello."[1] However, the album is still notable for several major compositions, including "Heavy Connection", "Flamingos Fly", "The Eternal Kansas City" and "Cold Wind in August".

Morrison had appeared in The Last Waltz with Mac Rebennack (better known as Dr. John) who was a co-producer on this album as well as playing keyboards and guitar.

This sums it up for me.

A few years later Van released "Into the Music" this is a throwback track to Astral Weeks. The Waterboys used to cover it.

What am I talking about? That took 2 years, I think he has 2 months at best. It is a period of transition, but we need to be moving quicker....

We’ve played over a third of the season not a quarter. And we’ve managed one draw and one single point against teams in the top half of the table. Top half, not top six.

We sit in sixth yes I accept that. But I’d argue as a result of the dross we have played, especially away. I don’t think we are better away than at home. I think we are ok against the worst teams and terrible against anyone any good.

And to my eye we are getting worse.

Apologies. Had it in my head we'd played 13 games not 16.

Either way, it's a ridiculously small sample size and you can't judge whether anyone is a success in that period of time.

The rest of the post still applies. Mads and Kitching not adequately replaced. Keeper out. Nobody remotely resembling a strike partner for Cole since Norwood left. Connell zero starts.

If I'm in charge, he gets 30 games at least before I'm making any kind of kneejerk judgements.

I don’t really understand this not beaten teams in the top half argument. Isn’t that perfectly normal? If we were losing to Cheltenham & beating Portsmouth that would be more baffling surely?

It’s perfectly normal - if you want to finish lower mid table at best.

The argument, or for me it is anyway, is that if you want to finish in the top six after 46 games you need to have beaten more than just the bottom 12 teams. We won’t beat all of them twice - (we’ve already played bottom half teams and not won) - and it is highly unlikely we’ll finish top six without winning at least 23 or 24 games. Yes we can afford to not get anything from the very best, say Portsmouth, even Oxford, Bolton - but we need at least some points from the rest at some point otherwise we’ll be nowhere near top six.

Come Christmas when we’ve played everyone at least once (mainly), I’d predict we’ll be comfortably outside the top six. I hope I’m wrong of course. But I think the fixtures between now and Boxing Day will garner fewer points per game on average than we’ve achieved up to now - based solely on who we have to play.

If we go to Lincoln at the weekend, play ok and get three points, I may reassess, as they are a top ten side. Realistically I’d take a point if offered it.

Yeah. 23rd without. Massive leap. And still 6 points from safety.
That's not to say we will beat em. I dont make predictions.

    This is my argument.

We need to stop kneejerking. After Saturday, we'd be 17 games into a 46 game season. And you're wanting to change opinions based on single games.

I'm not saying Collins is doing the perfect job either - just that it's far, far too soon to be judging him after such a small amount of games.

It’s not kneejerking when we’ve played (is it six of the top ten?) already. If anything a single result at Lincoln wouldn’t convince me we are capable against better opposition - but I was trying to be fair as my current conclusion is that we cannot beat anyone on the top eight or ten whatsoever.

    I suppose that's where we differ - I think it is. We've played 6 of the top 10. So that's 6 games out of 20. It's 30%. I don't think you can base a decision on that.
